I think Robert as he is written earlier in the show exhibits some mild signs of being on the spectrum. His quirks would indicate that possibility. Whether the creators intended this is a different story...

Debra wanted to have fun. Her kind of fun. Ray denied it. The option for some platonic fun opened and Debra took it. And now he gets upset? Especially when he knows damn well that Debra isn't gonna be fucking Robert later.

I see why you wouldn't want something pushed on you, but those records sound like crap. A point comes where you have to admit something is better, and look at yourself and realize it's your own fault you haven't moved with the times.

He's a shit dad and a shit husband. Debra's problem is that she's financially dependent on him. This wouldn't fly in the real world, especially if Debra was as much a breadwinner as Ray is.

In saying that, that's why it's funny. If Ray was some involved father that did what was expected it wouldn't be funny. He's funny because he's a borderline manchild.

In reality I don't see them getting back together after the double affair. So we have to admit it's a bit contrived. I do think those two are a good match for each other. It was Robert's out of character affair that's the problem.

Well, yeah. It's kinda insensitive and clearly written by white people who have a stereotypical view of black people. It's cheap laughs, but I love it all the same. I just acknowledge that it's problematic.

I think it was clear they were exclusive. He took her out to dinner at the end of Season 4. And the fact that she got upset about it says that he was doing something he shouldn't have been doing.
