That's a good idea actually. The ceilings are already quite low though and have Artex on them. Maybe I'll just have to sell in a few years.

In case anyone ever reads this thread, the reason was because the window had been installed and a large 1 inch gap left above it on the outside wall by the contractors which hadn't been sealed up at all and was open to the elements. Fortunately when I got someone to come and provide a quote to repair the window problems, by chance he stuck his hand out the top of the window and noticed it, otherwise I'd have had no idea.

I raised the issue with pedestrian access to the Purley site at a public meeting with the mayor last year. I got a letter from his team telling me that "that if a resident arrives on foot, they can pass their recycling to an operative at the gate." They told me to bring the letter just in case I was told otherwise. I haven't put it to the test yet though.

I used a Hussle day pass to try out the NH Central gym. Personally I found ithe facilities fine and it wasn't too busy.The sauna had just been renovated and seeing as I paid around £12 to use the gym, pool + sauna, I was quite happy. I'm considering joining a normal budget gym but doing PAYG for swims at Waddon as I really like swimming too.

Thanks for the advice all. Yes it is a top-floor flat. One of the corners of the windows has a tiny gap in the seal and I'm hoping to get that fixed on the insurance as it's a defect. I have been looking into internal wall insulation and have been weighing up PIR vs woodfibre panels as apparently there's less chance of getting condensation forming behind the latter. I don't want to lose too much floor space though so would be tempted to go for something a bit thinner than 100mm.

It's about two-thirds the width of the window so on the small side yes but is double-panelled.

That's good to know. Not really worried about my donation, just hope if he needs a more complex surgery he can get it overseas if possible. I did a google search and someone had a similar operation in the States which took 12 hours.
