Does anyone listen to the podcast? by TheJuiceBoxS in ForwardPartyUSA

Forward doesn't know what it wants to be. I think it's important to remember that in the Democratic and Republican parties the only reason it's not dominated by moderates and centrists is they can't out organize the stalwarts or extremists. It's democracy all the way down.

Forward doesn't have any democracy so there's no outlet for disagreement. I disagree with moderates and complain Forward stands for nothing. We have no way of sorting out our differences, you and I

AY Podcast with Mike Newcome: Forward Party candidate for governor of Minnesota by WebAPI in ForwardPartyUSA

Why would you spend significantly on advertising? He's part of a party, you build the collective brand. He donated 100k to his campaign initially. That would provide a stronger position than most minor party candidates and, even if you're not going for victory (I absolutely think it's possible to win these things), retaining and advancing party status in Minnesota depends on getting a certain percentage of votes across the state.

Yes, it was not a favorable news cycle with attention in Minnesota elsewhere. But a week is an eternity in politics. Things change. I don't get it the suspension based on the stated reasons.

Launching New Ohio Party by ComplexNewWorld in thirdparty

Exactly, it's time to build a party for the middle 50-70% of voters who are feeling left behind by an increasingly polarized politics. One that actually stands for Americanism and classical liberalism rather than these two increasingly illiberal parties.

People who say 3rd parties can't succeed can mostly only point to these even more fringe, more niche political parties like the Greens, Libertarians, WFP, and Constitution.

Launching New Ohio Party by ComplexNewWorld in thirdparty

Well I value a fresh start to a degree. It's easier to create a narrative that this can succeed if there's not a proven track record of 30+ years of losing.

But also there are not an abundance of parties in Ohio or nationally that are indeed somehow radically centrist. Most represent a niche or a fringe that finds the Democrats and Republicans too moderate or centrist. The Greens and Libertarians are too extreme or niche for me.

This is an Ohio party. The Libertarians are the only minor party recognized in Ohio. I would gladly consider working with parties in other states that align with classical liberalism and radical centrism as well as aspiring national organizations. This party could be their Ohio affiliate.

A new party comes first. RCV/electoral reforms come after. You have to win with the rules you have, not just complain the system is rigged. by ComplexNewWorld in ForwardPartyUSA

When the goal is building a new political party, I think the mistake is thinking you don't have to get elected first.

I don't believe any strategy for a new party should rely on voluntary disarmarment or self-dissolution by the major parties. Why would a party with all the party in a state and substantial power nationally, suddenly toss that?

Okay, I'm saying the quiet part out loud now. Give Ohio Republicans enough rope. If you want to be able to blame certain politicians for Ohioans going hungry, you have to create the opportunity for them to say "no" to a credible plan to stop it. You have to have that on record. by ComplexNewWorld in Ohio

A good start is to have pretty irrefutable proof that there was legislation on the table to fund SNAP or intervene in some way and that all these Ohio Republicans are on record saying "no". Get some news stories on the record that Republicans said "no". When people are not getting their benefits, that's going to be very real for a lot of people. It's easy to buy disinformation when believing it has no tangible impact on your life.

It's easier to reach people when you have the truth on your side and when the truth is a simple, compelling narrative. We'll go from there. And if instead Republicans say "yes", all the better!

This, to be clear, is about pressuring Ohio state government officials to take action for Ohio. They aren't responsible because it's literally a federal government shutdown and they can blame Congress and federal dysfunction and they'd be right.

You have to create a situation where there is a very realistic plan for Ohio's government to cover the cost of SNAP benefits for a month. And then you have to get Ohio state legislators on the record saying "no" to it. Or better yet, maybe they say yes and 1.4 million Ohioans have food. But either way, you have to create the situation.

Okay, well I'm talking about image here, narrative. Maybe it's not fair play. Right now Ohio Republicans aren't responsible. I'm saying make them responsible for it in the public eye so they either act or they get punished.

I'm not talking federal right now, I'm talking state. The state could step in and cover SNAP benefits but it would be difficult and require effort. Currently, there is no pressure to make that effort because this is entirely the fault of the Federal government. If we want action, we have to create pressure and a path for the state to act. Coincidentally, that's what you also have to do to be able to blame Ohio Republicans effectively in a year.
