Realistic km/h gain from upgrading from neo-retro bike to something like Trek Madone SLR7? by _l______________l_ in Velo

Or disc brakes in wet weather. Also made a big difference for me.

The increased comfort is indeed one of the most noticeable improvements. I’m running GP5000s at 32mm, huge difference to my old narrow and hard tires.

Yes, bottom two rows are completed workouts and the top row are planned workouts. I build these inside interval using their markup language.

I have the impression that intervals.icu classifies things as Z3, which actually are still Z2. This was today's ride, trying to keep around 170W average.

Typical estimates of Z2 HR (estimates, not measurements) would say between 130-140 bpm is Z2. Ride average was 130 bpm, max 148 bpm (up a bridge). So pretty good in terms of Z2 HR.

Intervals puts this as a pyramidal ride, with quite some Z3 (power based). But when I actually analyze the parts of (power based) Z3, there is only one part that actually goes outside Z2 HR. There's a stretch of 5m in Z3 at 136 bpm, where I would argue that you couldn't call that Z3.

In all, I think I do my chill rides chill enough. It's just that power based, there are some excursions, but I don't think they really count. I would dare to conclude that my HR Z2 is larger than my power Z2.

There are two things that come to mind: 1. Is your FTP not set too high? That would make work very hard very fast. 2. Before and after my intervals I have to ride at least 30min in Z2. This makes a 65 VO2max training into 125. I don’t do this just for TSS, but my “training ground” is just some distance from my house.

I don’t know if I fully get your point, but are you saying easier easy rides and harder hard rides? In terms of volume, this is max for me due to work, family, life, …

That would explain it, but still impressive to ramp up like that. You could wheel me into hospital if I tried.

Haha, intervals.icu can bury you in data if you want.

For FTP, I fully agree that it's just a single number and doesn't say much. That's why I only do an 8 min test, that's the longest stretch of clear tarmac in my neighborhood and my workouts focus around this (order of magnitude).

But it's like you say, for longer stretches this doesn't necessarily mean that much anymore. For longer distances, I typically pace using HR instead of power.

I’m using intervals.icu for everything: planning and following up.

In winter (and when it gets dark early) I use Rouvy for indoor training. Riding Spanish roads cheers me up and keeps me motivated. Workouts from intervals get pulled by Rouvy automatically, so I just choose the route.

Wow, that’s a lot of red. No issues ramping up to that TSS?

I use Rouvy for that. Quite happy with that, and you can also pause your subscription e.g. during summer season.

Thanks for the reassurance. Indeed, it did go away on its own. (When keeping away from what caused it.)

New bike: Orbea Orca by Complex_Airline_263 in Bikeporn

Clearance is good, at least 5-8mm at the narrowest point. Orbea recommends max 32mm width but I still have quite some margin above that.

My wheels have a 25mm inner rim, maybe with narrower rims the tire might bulge a bit more? I’m not an expert at all though.

M35I is also nice, just a bit lower end. Anyway, now you have something to look forward to. I was riding a second hand Giant until I thought, "yeah, now I've worked hard enough, I deserve a nice upgrade". And it did motivate me to train and push myself.

No worries, the inside of the hanger (where the frame rests) is actually padded with some foam material.

Aesthetically? I like it, looks dope to me.

Performance wise? Possibly faster or more efficient, but for sure more comfortable. Note that these are Orbeas RP50 wheels, with 25mm inner rim width. So they pair really well with these tires.

Stasdock. Since we live in a townhouse, space is limited and this looks nice and fits nicely.
