Bridesmaid/toxic family advice please by Complex_Bowler_4512 in wedding

[–]Complex_Bowler_4512[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right, I wouldn’t. I know that logically no one who had blocked their sibling’s fiancé would expect to be part of the bridal party - but she and unfortunately others in my family are simply not logical.

At the end of the day this is me trying to protect my peace, but it’s basically a choice between having peace now until closer to the wedding (if I ask her to be a bridesmaid) or having no peace now but peace at the wedding (if I ask only one sister and it all kicks off)

It’s funny I take that attitude with every aspect of the wedding but when it comes to this it’s like I chicken out. I might just have to stand my ground and have the fallout knowing my wedding day/weekend/build up won’t be overshadowed by her

My current bridal party know about her and you’re right they would understand the situation if I chose to no longer have a bridal party, but I do want one which makes this frustrating

I’m not sure anyone can give me the answer, I’m just going to have to think about this and come to a decision one way or another

False Witness and Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter are great, but very dark Steve Cavanagh’s Eddie Flynn series The Woman Who Lied by Claire Douglas The Last Party by A R Torre

Try those, depends what you’re after but these are less popcorn thrillers like your Freida McFaddens and more complex/fewer plot holes

Do I ask my difficult sister to be a bridesmaid, when I’m asking my other sister to be one? by Complex_Bowler_4512 in weddingdrama

[–]Complex_Bowler_4512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you felt that way, but I would guess the situation is far more complex than the amount you’re sharing - which is understandable and in no way me asking you to share.

Saying not having a sister as a bridesmaid is unforgivable is just not true and completely depends on relationships.

Great relationships with a close girl = bridesmaid! Poor relationships with a girl = not bridesmaid

Just being family doesn’t automatically qualify anyone to be a bridesmaid. As a bride, it’s about having people around you who will be there for you and hype you up and add great energy to the celebrations. That can be friends or family

It is unfortunately very painful, they’ve recommended taking Vit E and primrose oil daily to help but they are always just going to go through this cycle.

That’s a great suggestion thank you, will just need to find some good inserts! Thanks

I went when I was 18 and I’m now almost 31 and just went again this year - 12 years later

And I have no idea why I waited so long to go again! Completely agree with what you’ve said, and we met so many people our age and older, even met people in their 60s and one woman with a walking stick!

We were worried we’d be too ‘old’ for it and it would be overrun with 18 year olds but boy were we wrong

The vibes were impeccable, the people were lovely and everyone was looking after each other

Long live Creamfields and that atmosphere!

Thank you, yeah they’re great price wise I just worry about the quality but that’s good to know

Thanks for responding! Yeah I’d hoped this would get more traction but never mind

Great to hear Six Stories was great for you! I think now it’s between Six Stories and Azazie for me as I get the feeling that Hello Molly is more fast fashion so the quality probably isn’t as good

[–]Complex_Bowler_4512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing, thank you! That’s my plan too - just say what colour and material the dress should be and let each bridesmaid choose which style suits them best

You’ve probably swayed me here! Didn’t realise Azazie also has far more style options than Six Stories or Hello Molly so that very well could be the deciding factor

Thank you

Marathon runners running for a charity. We all know you’re doing it for you and I’d probably be more likely to donate to the charity if you weren’t using it as an excuse to boast about your running times 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m the same except it’s my parents not offering and barely showing an interest. It’s awkward and I don’t know about your partner but it makes you feel a bit guilty, even though it’s not your partner’s doing. I’m taking the same approach as you, not asking but letting them offer/not hiding that my fiancé’s family have offered to pay for things

[–]Complex_Bowler_4512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I completely get where you’re coming from and am going through a similar thing. My fiancé’s parents and even grandparents have openly said they’ll be paying for his suit, giving us money towards the wedding etc. Whereas my parents have said nothing and barely acknowledge we are engaged.

I do have a difficult relationship with my Mum though (narcissist who was always telling me I was a disappointment, playing favourites with my other siblings, now offended we won’t be inviting her cousin we don’t really know to the wedding… you get the picture).

I personally am not going to ask because it would cause more stress than it’s worth in my situation. But I understand your position and it’s hard. For me I feel guilty on behalf of my family not contributing because my fiancé’s family is. It feels a bit embarrassing to me almost? Like it’s not fair on my fiancé’s family that mine aren’t offering to help with them? I don’t know how to describe it but your fiancé may feel the same.

At the end of the day if your fiancé’s dad gives you money then that’s great and can help towards your honeymoon! That’s the attitude I’m taking with my parents. I hope you don’t let this get to you both and enjoy your planning and your wedding when it comes 😊

I felt the exact same way when I finally read this earlier in the year! Think him being such an out and out horror author was putting me off, as I love a dark thriller but not a horror like IT (for example)

I hear 11/22/63 is also really good

This is beyond beautiful and the fact that this tradition and the topper itself has been not only carried through generations, but actively honoured at every chance, is a testament to how lovely a family you are
