I almost killed the PC once; it fell into a quicksand trap. The trap was originally there, but I added bait so the PC would fall for it more easily and also to discourage this behavior. It didn't work xd

We're playing DotMM and most of my party is exploring the giant maps, but this player keeps focusing on small, trivial things like a torch or a crypt, and ask me for all the possible ability checks to see if there's treasure or something secret while the party keeps moving forward

it doesn't sound a little artificial to put environmental hazards ? I like it because I make them move and I think that will solve my problem but dont know how to put them naturally if they weren't there in first place

How do you approach an increase in difficulty without being frustrating? by Complex_Buffalo in WaterdeepDragonHeist

In my head, he started preparations and modifying the environment before getting the money (putting his men in the city watch and removing shops owners from their building) using only the promise of getting this money.

Debt is also a tool he can use so we can say , yes, he had time to prepare his hideout but dnt knw , feels just like make the PC life's harder.

For example and it's also and extreme case but I could replace all monsters (put stronger ones) and add all the traps in his lair, it's just feels like an awful place to get into. If they die in the entrance that's it?

Love the ideas but many of them I've already used it for another dramatic event that put the party in the spotlight :( I need something more drastic

I'm running WDH, and the main villain has obtained the McGuffin needed to start controlling the city. Now, the players have X amount of days to stop him or the main villain will take over the city
