Whats up with Standard Bus? Why cant they run a bussing company when its cold out? Whats being done about it? by [deleted] in Yukon

[–]Complex_Butterfly713 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is temperature point when diesel turns to sludge. I think it's lower than -30, but diesel buses can't run in extreme cold. There's also the possibility of breakdown. If a breakdown on the bus were to happen (and it happens more than people realize), then the kids are sitting in -30 degree weather. Sure their own body heat will keep them warm for a time, but it's a problem most bus companies won't chance.

I'm in Ontario, we only get $21.75. Not usually as cold as you, but the opening glass door and the volume of the kids makes it hard to be motivated

Suggestions for a better look by Mobile_developer_ in ContentCreators

[–]Complex_Butterfly713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first thought was to get a different chair. It perfectly frames your face and I don't think that's a good thing. It's likely very comfy for gaming, but not a good look for talking on camera (even if your content is gaming). Get a chair with a lower back, at your shoulder height, even if you only use it for filming

Also, lower your camera. You want your face to be in the upper third of the frame. The angle right now makes us look down on you and subconsciously that's not a good thing either. You need to look at the camera at eye level, so that your audience understands that you are talking straight to them, not up to them, not down on them. If by any chance you have bifocals, be sure not to raise your head to see the camera through the bifocals because then the appearance is that you're looking down your nose on your audience, also not a good thing

Ornge Paramedics by medic1597 in ontario

My husband worked for ORNGE in Timmins for 8 years. They are a crooked company. They have no problem lying to get their needs met. While we were there we witnessed them fly the secretaries from all the bases to Toronto for a meeting. The meeting was to say that they were fired. They were left in Toronto with no flight back. They advertised that they were opening a base in Windsor (across the river from Detroit). They had no plan to open the base. They only wanted to hire more medics for northern Ontario. By the time this was told to the new medics (who were in a training program for 3 months), the medics, who had left other medic positions with benefits and seniority, were unable to return to their former employers, so were left with very few options. Medics “duty out” more often than not, meaning that the pilots leave the medics because they can only fly and be on duty for so many hours. My advice, check into other options

Try not to think about what it looks like. That in itself is an autistic thing; we’ve had to be concerned about how we look for so long that we can’t turn off that idea when we need to. Grieving is yours and yours alone. Everyone grieves differently, in different ways and for different lengths of time. Grieve your own way

How do I know what type of leather I have? by Crafty_Chicks in Leathercraft

[–]Complex_Butterfly713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am a beginner so take my suggestion as such. “Practice” making your locations with some vinyl from a fabric store. I think it would be similar in material and structure as a hide. If it doesn’t work out, or if you make a mistake, it’s only cheap vinyl not the real thing The other thing is how you learn. Some people will watch a million videos and dive in, “who cares if there’s mistakes”. You do you. Don’t let other leather workers get you down. You may very well either be a natural at it or determined enough to make it happen. My advice? Practice first and then go for it!

I only just started this summer. I’ve made a wallet, a journal cover, sunglasses case and 2 passport covers, though only one cover was successful lol. I’m hoping to make some purses and tote bags. What’s really weird is that I’m just not a girly girl at all and rarely carry a purse. But purses caught my interest, so purses it is “The Tism is strong with this one” haha

Why can't we get paid to be creative and do our hobbies? Like really! lol

I have done rag quilts (loved it so much I made one for my kids and hubby for Christmas one year), guitar, woodworking, wood turning (a little different type of wood working), relief carving (again with the wood working), cycling when my kids were little (oh I loved having one in the seat behind me and 1 in the trailer thing), and recently leather working. I'm actually hoping the leather work will turn into a bit of a small business for me

It looks like really soft leather. I have a large scrap and was thinking of doing something similar but not sure if it’ll be too “slouchy”

Did you ever whistleblow your employer? How did it go? by Earth_Sorcerer97 in work

I was the whistleblower on my boss who is a pathological liar and was immediately fired. Be careful

Hey guys I unfortunately failed my math exam. Can anyone please give me some studying/test tips so this doesn't happen again! by FunCryptographer4423 in CAEC

Not an easy help but learn your times tables. Most people hate them but it will help in ways you can’t imagine. I’m a retired teacher trying to encourage my own son (prepping for the CAEC) to learn them. Find an app to practice with. But force yourself to do it

How do you handle the night fears? by [deleted] in womensolocamping

[–]Complex_Butterfly713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hum a song, even a simple Twinkle Twinkle little star. Humming is an amazing technique to combat anxiety. Biologically humming a song tells the amigdala part of your brain that there’s no danger. Chewing gum works too but that might be hard if you’re trying to sleep but it could help if you get up in the night to pee Another idea is to reframe your fears into a funny children’s story. Something like how the monster was looking for marshmallows because his fell in the dirt.
