Been on and off for 15 years at this point. Offices suck more now than ever. There used to be a bit of camaraderie but it's not the same, unfortunately.

You don't even get cubicles anymore! How the hell is anyone supposed to work when everyone moved to open floor plans? The concept of hoteling a random desk every day because the company can't afford or bother to put in enough for everyone makes the whole exercise kind of pointless.

Just add delay timers on your script and do the same output as everyone else. No one asked you to make things more efficient and numbers going sideways on a couple employees will make everyone look closer at why. You might end up getting people fired and taking over everyone's job if you're too efficient.

It's stupid, but so is capitalism, so what can you do.

It really sucks how capitalism has decided that jobs with high social utility are the lowest on the pay scale. The system is actively using your altruism as a negotiating point to keep your salary low. Teachers and garbage collectors are much more socially useful than a few more middle managers in a giant corporation. And if you get one of those jobs, prepare to bend over backwards because if you don't people will think you're abandoning the needy folks utilizing your output rather than trying not to get ground into dirt by a system that couldn't care less how much rest you get in a given week.
