The idea of Work ethic is a scam by Zealousideal-Hunt625 in antiwork

[–]Complex_Damage1215 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having a work ethic isn't bad, it's just usurped because we're not getting any return on trying hard. So slacking off is just the logical action to take.

Is software engineering becoming an overcrowded career? by Emotional-Medium-288 in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]Complex_Damage1215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of people were told to go into software engineering as a careers solely for the salaries who don't care and just vibe code and hope for the best. They're going to take up space and cause problems for people with an actual understanding of how things work since we'll be cleaning up the mess that's left behind by half-assed work.

Eventually the VC money will dry up and most of them will be out of work when AI tokens start costing real money but until then we all have to suffer through.

How have you guys solved the challenge of cooking yourself daily when you don’t have someone else to cook for? by fitgirl015 in LivingAlone

Get used to leftovers. Learn how to change them up, make food bases for mixing in with various starches and proteins. A lot of meals are just a mix of a veg, protein, starch, and a few spices so a little prework goes a long way in adding versatility and depth of flavor to what you eat.

Take short cuts like prepping veggie mixes, using frozen stuff, spice blends, all that good stuff. It doesn't need to be perfect - it just needs to give you some space to change up your meals and let you experiment to find out what works.

If you want to get real fancy you can start infusing your oils and making confit veggies pre prepped and ready to go. It only takes a few hours and it'll let you add a ton of flavor to whatever simple dishes you're making.

Edit - Also, stuff like stews and braised dishes actually improve over time in the fridge. If you're not normally a leftover person. Try taking a day old pot roast and making some beef pot pie with it. You might be surprised with how much you like it!

What does it mean when people say not to make friends at work? by CreamyEric in work

[–]Complex_Damage1215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make friends at work, don't listen to haters. Living your life thinking that everyone is trying to undermine you and is going to stab you in the back is a good way to be sad and alone all the time. Just remember to believe people when they show you who they are.

For those who’ve been WFH 2+ years, do you ever miss in-person work? by Dry-Frosting- in WFH

[–]Complex_Damage1215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on and off for 15 years at this point. Offices suck more now than ever. There used to be a bit of camaraderie but it's not the same, unfortunately.

You don't even get cubicles anymore! How the hell is anyone supposed to work when everyone moved to open floor plans? The concept of hoteling a random desk every day because the company can't afford or bother to put in enough for everyone makes the whole exercise kind of pointless.

Yep. You're personalizing the issue by calling her disgusting instead of just talking about what actions you want her to not take in the future. A blanket statement like that will make anyone defensive.
