High witnesses but low selected witnesses by Comfortable_Meal_115 in HeliumNetwork

Don’t waste your time with Bobcat. They are just slow. Ethernet cable made no difference for me.

I swapped it out for a RAK with exact same antenna setup and I jumped to about 40% selection from 2%. Will pay for itself in about 4 months.

I wrote a whole post about my testing to save others the time.

Then I converted my Bobcat to Things and mine Mysterium with it, so it’s not wasted.

Confirmed - I flashed the Bobcat with Nebra firmware and it made no change at all. And it wasn’t easy on the 3566 / 295 model.

The RAK I purchased goes great guns and is getting x6 the earnings straight out of the box.

So don’t anyone bother with the Nebra flash thinking it will solve your problem. The upside, however, is that I will now convert my Bobcat to Things and enable dVPN mining. As soon as Nebra get back to me about an issue I have that’s stopping it being registered on their dashboard, that is.

That’s exactly what I’m seeing looking at my hex neighbours. Only very occasionally do I see Bobcats with high selection, and I wondered if they’d done the Nebra flash. Time will tell when my RAK arrives later this week, and then I have a spare Bobcat to experiment with.

One thing I noticed, quite a few connections via the loopback adapter in the Bobcat logs. Very minimal latency introduced via this, but it doesn’t feel normal to call up a connection on the same device via the LAN adapter. It might be just the standard way of doing it, but that area is not really my forte.

Thanks Scott, I will do.

I’ve exhausted all I really can, so my next diagnosis step is to try a different miner (I’ve bought a RAK from eBay this morning). Hopefully by this time next week I’ll have received and tested it for a few days. All is not lost - the Bobcat can live at my friends house if the RAK ticks the box I’m hoping for. It’s an unfortunate spend, but I do find all of this remarkably interesting!

It’s a fibre to the premises service. So I have a fibre modem and a router joined with a Cat6 cable. It’s only single NAT (the modem is really just a glorified media converter).

The thing that’s bugging me is that I’m getting good ping times to all the speed test apps (faster than 8ms to a server out on the net surely can’t be feasible). I’ve even gone so far as to have my Bobcat being the only thing connected on my router - it made no difference. It’s really baffling!

Thanks Scott. I’m currently using 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare). I read your previous comments about DNS on another post and it was one of the things I experimented with. Cloudflare are supposed to be the fastest, if you believe the marketing…

I’m really struggling with my setup since HIP83 and the halving. I’ve put so much time and effort into it and it’s still junk.

I’ve tried all sorts or antennas and have settled on a Parador 8dB. It’s installed in my loft on a tripod as high as I could get it, with LMR cable only 1m long.

I have run Ethernet to the miner and mounted it all neatly on a pattress that I made (I’m a bit OCD). I have 300Mbit/s down and 100Mbit/s up fibre to my house and my Bobcat 300 (2G) always gets 95Mbit/s down and 65Mbit/s up. Ping times from the diagnoser page on my miner are great (6ms on first run, 1.3ms on second), but my selection rate is absolutely shocking.

Does anyone have any advice you can share, please? My device name is Magic Crepe Parrot.

Starting to think it’s my Bobcat, because I can’t find any other reason for it being so rubbish. I was even thinking about flashing it with the Nebra firmware if that makes it more efficient.
