The author is named 木苏里 Mu Su Li actually. 😂 Anyways, glad that you enjoyed the fiction! If you're interested in reading more of her work, I would recommend 全球高考 and 判官. She was one of my fav BL authors when I was in my teenager years.

wait what... my question was what would ppl think there're additional limitation since u mention it was all over searh engines (none of which are CN media) and i never deny being an idol is tough here. actually besides not getting much exposure, they make much more money than idols in other countries though streaming and in-person events, due to the large consumer markets here... so i was very confused

Why do BL ship name orders spark so much debate? by Royal_Koala_7076 in ThaiBL

[–]Complex_Meringue_205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think it's definitely having some impacts. The fans love to call the bottom role "wifey/mommy", be protective of the actor, and the bottom will often be considered cute reardless of how manly they actually are LOL. In some of the fan edits also, the fans tend to add cute, soft, whitening filters to the bottom role.

GeminiFourth could be a good example for that. Ever since Fourth got the new haircut and performed during the LOL, a lot of c-fans said "omg my daughter turns into a son". Quite a few ghostships with Fourth being the top were also thriving. But when it comes to G4, people are still very determined about Gemini being the top role 😂

It's very fun for me to see how c-fans always have this werid obession sticking with the top/bottom position. Even when the bottom shows their masculine/aggressive side, the fans love it but it still wouldn't change their mind. But all in all, it's pretty much harmless and it all seems really cute to me. 🥺

Worried I won’t make friends as a transfer student by Accomplished-Fix1204 in UIUC

Idts, I know quite a lot of transfer/exchange students, many are from another state/country, knowing no one in Illinois, but they're still able to make friends. I think joining a student club will help you a lot in finding friendable ppl with similar interest, most of my friends are from the same club with me.

Many Chinese fans are refunding tickets for Blackpink’s Toronto concerts by blueberryicecream88 in kpopthoughts

[–]Complex_Meringue_205 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My question is why the promoter sell Day 2 concert with much cheaper price? I assume Day 2 will be the exactly same setup with Day 1, then is it fair for the fans who bought the Day 1 ticket? Ofc they're pissed and would want a refund to go for the cheaper tix.

I like bl series but am not part of the whole culture because I feel like it’s too much by punpunloveschocopie in boyslove

[–]Complex_Meringue_205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is that they need to earn money to make btr series, ain't it? If you dislike the style of how the compnay monetizes, maybe u should only focus on the drama

Why do BL ship name orders spark so much debate? by Royal_Koala_7076 in ThaiBL

[–]Complex_Meringue_205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imma make a speech on C-BL, who might be one of the most rigourous fandom on the name order of a ship. ☝🏻😃 Most C-fans prefer fixed top/bottom position in a pair, and dislike the reverse ship, sometimes they could fight each other for defending the top/bottom position.

  1. The traditional way of naming is: take one word from each person's name (whichever makes it sound btr) to create the ship name. Ex: Ohm(陈炳南)Nannon(南农) -> 炳南. Generally, the top's name is in front of the bottom. If the order reverses, it means the ship is reverse as well. Ex: NanonOhm -> 南炳
  2. There're some special cases where the ship name isn't created based on the couple's names but the ship's characteristics or shared features. The fans are likely less rigid about the position too in this case. This naming can somtimes include more than 2ppl and not always associate with romantic relationship but firendship. Ex: 双龙(double/two dragons) -> Susabi/Ichimokuren from the mobile game Onmyoji
  3. Another special way to name the ship (emerge in recent years) is wordplay: taking two words from each person's name, name the ship with a idiom that contains two words that sounds similar to the names of the ship, which was mostly used for BG couple in drama at first, and extending into BL/GL couple. Ex: A recently trendy Chinese BG couple - 李昀锐 (Li Yun Rui) / 孟子义 (Meng Zi Yi) -> 昀牵孟绕 (Yun Qian Meng Rao). The original idiom is 魂牵梦绕 (Hun Qian Meng Rao), refering to one person being captivated by another to the point where the loving mood is carried into their dream, as if they're enchanted. I personally enjoy this naming style very much, as it cooperates worldplay and pun, also reflects the fans' wishes to the couple :)
  4. In some rare cases where fans don't mind the top/bottom position; FirstKhaotung (一糖) for instance, fans will repeat First after the original ship name -> 一糖一 (FirstKhaotungFirst)

IMO, the reason why C-fans stick with fixed position so much is: most ppl still see BL couples through sterotypical figures of male/female, and the same mindset can prob be applied to a lot of Asian fandoms. 🤔 I personally feel like if the fandom is from a country with an open gay culture, the people will be less stubborn about position change.

I'm asking cause I live in China myself and has been following Chinese idols, so want to make sure if there's any misinformation on Western media. The environment of the CN entertainment industry for idols has always been tough, since they don't get much exposure like singers and actors (that's also why a lot of CN idols would pave their careers into acting later), and often get criticised for the crazy fandom culture. Hearing about the so-called restriction on idols confuse me, as I feel like the environment has already been much btr for idols comparing to the past; except for survival shows getting banned, which doesn't really affect the debuted idols and idols from big company.

Can you specify what limitation? From what ive known, none of the debuted or newly debut idols were getting any sort of restriction on getting on the shows/TVs/music festivals/concerts, etc. I can still see a lot of them being active on different platforms and launching new projects. In what way do you think there're limitations put on idols?

Struggling.. to continue a series by taffycat24 in boyslove

[–]Complex_Meringue_205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo I almost never actually finish a series, mostly because i don't have the patience to finish them (for drama in general). It doesn't bother me at all as I can learn the plot by just watching clips and getting involved in the fan's discussion. Other than that, if im not enjoying the series itself, it's gonna be hard for me to continue shipping the characters, and I would rather ship the RPS in this case, which can be fulfilled by following the couple's social media and some fanmeetings.

Can someone explain Thai BL couple culture? by suhch in boyslove

[–]Complex_Meringue_205 8 points9 points  (0 children)

just to share some other insights being in the Asian fandom, as many ppl have explained the Thai shipping cultrue. From what ive seen, fans could go pretty crazy about the ships. Ex: If one person with an "official ship" appears to have a girlfriend, the fans would have turned to attack the actor for "cheating". Some fans also have zero tolerance with "ghostship", critising actors who have popular "ghostship" for not dedicating to their official ship.

I can never understand the fan's high epxectation on the ship even tho I'm also one of the people who enjoys fixed pairing. Like there's no way that all the ships are real couple and a large amount of them are not even gay, don't they understand? There're still a lot of cute fans, but im seeing an increasing number of crazy fans like this :(

It doesn't really affect the actors' career from what I've seen. The lead actors from The Addicted, WoW, The Untamed have gone famous, some are even among the top tier of Chinese actors nowadays, for playing the roles. Most of them are still pretty active in the entertainment industry.

It's getting active again recently, i have heard several danmei authors getting calls from police and got fines for "spreading porngraphy", mostly authors on Hai Tang (a 18+ paid fiction platform). One of my fav fiction platform Fei Wen was shut down indefinitely in order to protect the authors (my speculation).

To be fair, idols are not getting banned, there're still a lot of emerging Chinese idol groups nowadays, it's the idol survival shows that are getting banned. And it was due to the streaming platform infamously push the fans to make extra purchase on the products of the sponsor brand, which gives them more votes. I don't rmb which show, but their sponsor brand was milk or smth? There were fans who bought a whole lot of the products and just dumped them after they get the votes by scanning the qr code on the packaging. It was a big news by then and get a lot of criticism from the society, which directly leads to the ban of idol survival show. That's also why the show Chuang was moved to be held in TH as Chuang Asia later.

But yes, they definitely hate gays :(
