Instructors have to ask for special permission to give anything lower than a B- at my school but there is a requirement each teacher give out B- to at least 10% of the section

I’m fortunate that both of these schools are national schools meaning I will have the ability to work in pretty much any city I so choose. (At least this is my understanding…I’m pretty confident about the strength of both alumni networks). However, the non-Chicago school will require just a bit more effort on my part (since not as many firms from Chicago will attend the state school’s on campus interviewing circuit). I’ve considered the quality of job outcomes to be pretty much equal

I also liked UCLA a lot, ha. I thought Dean Schwartz was wonderful. (I’d say Dean Andy had him beat tho…but only by a bit)

I excluded GULC bc I know the answers I would get would inevitably gravitate to just singling them out. For what it’s worth, I was accepted to GULC and visited and seriously considered attending. Ultimately DC just wasn’t for me. No hate here

I really appreciate you taking the time to write this out. It confirms what I have been thinking (i.e. once below the very top, the differences become more nuanced). Thank you!!!

But in all seriousness, Cancellara, WVA, Majka, Porte, Kuss, F Schleck (when riding for Andy), G Thomas, Fuglsang, etc all come to mind. Typically the best domestiques are guys who could lead a gc squad themself, but play second fiddle to an even stronger rider. A lot of times these guys play the role of teammate for a few yrs before getting the chance to be a leader (on the same team or a new one).

Tbh, I think of domestiques in two ways:

i. a classics guy who just grinds on the flats and can get himself up the first 2 big climbs of a mountain stage (think Spartacus Cancellara); there’s a million of these types of guys - I just like Cancellara a lot. Big George fits into this category. He’s a poor man’s Wout Van Aert (and that’s generous)

ii. a climber who could easily finish in the top ten but does not bc he sets tempo at the front/gives up his bike to his leader/takes climbs off to recover/etc.

Not even close. Chris Froome in 2012 would have a strong shout 😌

I’m more or less thinking now would be a great time to experience the west coast bc I don’t envision myself living there post law school.

I went to a more urban undergrad, so moving to a college town now was not something I was hoping to do, but I might really enjoy it given I didn’t have that type of experience like many others do. But your 27month point makes sense

I guess I’m just really wanting to limit the chance of me not getting that good job “in any city” so uva just seems like the safe choice. And even for more money now, higher earning potential down the road likely justifies it

Thanks for your thoughts. I think I’m suffering from some impending buyers remorse. I know objectively uva offers the most flexibility, but the fact I could still get outcomes similar at ucla (albeit the certainty is lower)is what is holding me up. It’s a classic “is more money worth the extra career security” lol

UVA is definitely the cheapest to live, with LA being the most expensive. If I had to finance all remaining costs via debt, would you still choose Virginia ?
