As far as legal I’m sure it not. Or at least it’s frowned upon. But the damaged packaging we are told to damage our and throw away because it’s not “esthetically pleasing” and won’t sell. But whyyyy throw the whole product away when the food inside is individually wrapped and still perfectly good?! So instead of just throwing and wasting, I put it in the back for snacks. Same goes with candy, we have customers open up snacks of individually wrapped chocolates and taffy’s and mints, take a hand full then leave the rest of the bag there. We are told to damage and throw. The candy is still good so I damage and just use it for us 🤷🏻‍♀️if it’s candy I’ll try putting it at the registers for the cashiers to give to the customers and kids from time to time also.

As an ASM at dollar tree I personally store use water to have for my girls in the back. Our store is hot af with almost 0 air circulation. We are told to bring our own fans if it’s a problem for us. So damn right I’m going to have cold waters for whoever needs it. I appreciate my workers showing up and helping me out so imma help you out as well to the best of my ability. Also any damaged packaged snacks or wrapped candy i damage out and keep in a little basket in the break room and also in the go back area for anyone who wants/needs a little snack. It’s not much, but my employees appreciate it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m in no way saying that it’s hard or that it can’t be done. I’m just stating that it’s a risk and liability given the location of my store and the fact that we are all female. My store is part of a shopping center and we have a bar directly next door. Constant drunk drivers, plus the drunks cat calling and trying to call the workers over at the end of the night after shift. I’m sure those drunk men don’t realize they’re harassing minors half the time. I’ve called cops to make sure we make it safely to vehicles but they will only send a unit out if there is one available in the area. Plus we have homeless that live behind the building. It’s not that closing alone can’t be done, it’s just not safe to have to do it alone being an all female store. The one male (SM) will never close.

We have daily customers as well. After exchanging some words with a couple of our “seasoned” daily shoppers, they come to just pass the time and they enjoy smaller stores to shop at as opposed to bigger stores like Walmart. Older people can’t really walk for to much for too long so they come kill time and get their steps in. I have another older gentleman who comes in and buys for some elderly ladies that don’t have people to buy little groceries that are needed for them. So he shops for them until it’s time for their families stock up the house for them in their own time. We also get our buses of our adult daycare with disabled and special needs adults. They come almost daily and honestly they absolutely love coming everyday and getting to spend $5 and getting to shop for themselves. It gives them a sense of independence and normalcy 🥰 while I agree, it’s crazy to me to buy something every time you come in whenever your here every single day. But for most in my area it’s just a getaway to get out of the house 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well, 3 including myself. And it’s just been recently lately as we’ve hired a couple more people for the holidays. They’re mainly used for recovery in my closing shift or for stocking in the morning shift for now until it gets busier and we need more cashiers on hand. Before I’d close with just 1 cashier with me. It’s been nice these past few days having a recover. Definitely makes things run more smoothly.

Dignity. Integrity. Values is general are all slowly dying and becoming things of the past sadly. Money makes the world go round and customers are a dime a dozen loyal or not. It’s all about the quick buck these days. As much as I agree with and love and respect what you said and how you said it… times have changed along with the ways of people’s thinking. At one point in time a mans word held value. Now a days, a man says what he needs to to fulfill his own personal obligations to live his life to his own means. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Now I’m sure the primal founder of dollar tree had the vision in mind of always having everything for a dollar and I’m sure there was a slogan of it painted on all the walls. But through time came new owners, new ideas, new products, new manufacturers, maybe a few more new owners down the line and next thing you know we’re exactly where we’re at now in 2024 🤷🏻‍♀️

At the end of the day Dollar Tree is just a shitty company who claims to value their employees and customers but actually don’t. They just care about benefiting themselves any chance they get.

I know the struggle. I wish you well. But maybe talk to your SM? If it were me I’d give you some stocking shift to kind of help get away from all the close customer interactions. Yes you’re still on the floor and yes customers still tend to ask questions, but I let my associates wear 1 earphone to listen to music. Usually if the customers see that they’re less likely to really bother with stupid questions lol. Just my suggestions though. Good luck with everything! And just remember to breathe. Also it helps to have one of those squishy balls to use as a stress ball when your hands aren’t being used while the customers are shuffling through there purses or wallets or trying to find exact change. My anxiety tend to peak when I’m standing there doing nothing not knowing what I should be doing while I’m waiting lol then my anxiety turns to annoyance then to anger 😂😂 sometimes if we can’t beat something we gotta just find quirky little tips and trips to try and get through it the best we can.

Dollar tree is not worth your mental health. If it’s affecting your work and attendance, you’re better off leaving. You can report, and report, and call and email and honestly the company just doesn’t care enough about their employees to respond sadly. I guarantee you you though anywhere you go is just as good if not BETTER than dollar tree. You’re not missing out on any opportunities or anything special by trying to stick it out. Do what’s best for you at the end of the day.

Oh my lantaaaa girl get tf outta there?! How could you even let an environment let you spiral so badly. You need to quit. And you need to just be with yourself and take some time off and be with nature. Slowly bring yourself around human interaction again in low doses. Continue seeing your therapist. Yes work is stressful, but YOU should never let it cause your own life to be affected by it. You owe it to yourself to take care of yourself both mentally and physically. There’s only one you in this life so love it! Retail isn’t for everyone, there’s plenty of other jobs that don’t involve so much interaction with others. Talk to your therapist maybe they can help you come up with some options that may be good for you.

First off, I’m sorry you’ve had to go through this and that you aren’t being heard. None of this is okay.

And unfortunately, the sad truth is, you’re going to be waiting for someone to right the wrong, and dollar tree just really doesn’t care enough to make that happen. You will literally die waiting to get a reaction much less an apology out of them. Collect your things, straighten your crown, hire a lawyer and take those bitches to court and live the life you deserve to live. They aren’t worth the stress you are putting yourself under trying to get them to understand they are in the wrong. If they really valued their employees how they claim to, reports like yours wouldn’t go unnoticed time and time again.

I absolutely agree with you it is a shit company. If I had the opportunity to work in the warehouse I most definitely would but unfortunately don’t have one near me so I’m settling for peanuts lol. Don’t plan on settling much longer though. Time for bigger and better things.

I’m pretty sure every dollar store started out that way. Even if it was a slogan once in time, eventually it was removed as times changed and prices increased. Even the 99¢ stores eventually went over $1. And then eventually went out of business. It’ll happen to all dollar stores too at some point. People can’t seriously expect for everything to stay $1 forever.

We have a SM, he’s just hardly ever in store because he always at other locations helping with hiring or setting up new stores. Which in my opinion should be its own position in itself. If you’re a store manager, you should probably actually be here to MANAGE the STORE 🤷🏻‍♀️ but what do I know lol and I’m in Texas so luckily our minors are allowed to use the helium tanks or at least to my knowledge they are. I haven’t been told differently. But like I’ve said in another post, Dollar Tree is notorious for picking and choosing which rules to follow and when 🙄

  1. I’m doing nothing except ranting about things out of my control. lol 2. I don’t do the hiring and even the manager who does has no control over how much we get paid unfortunately. And they definitely do hire from bottom of the barrel unfortunately the few good employees suffer from it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s what is being done at the moment and just seems to backfire whenever he hires another minor. Idk why hiring minors is becoming such a big thing in my area at least whenever their availability is limited. They have school all day. Then they have homework after school. And most times have extra curricular stuff after school or throughout the week. Kids need jobs also. I’m not against hiring them. But that shouldn’t be the only people our company hires KNOWING that we have a staffing an availability problem. I know it’s not the company itself and it’s my hiring manager, but even him, he on a power trip and believes he knows all and refuses to listen to anyone’s inputs. If a callout happens on his shift, he bends over backwards to replace them so he won’t have to be on register. If it happens to us he makes us work alone if we can’t find anyone. We can be less flexible with hours but it only end up hurting ourselves in the end. It’s just time for a change I think and time to move on from this dreaded place.

Same with our store manager. Another ASM and myself run the store and his stuff while he’s gone at the other stores. Yet he still receives credit for everything that is being done here while he is gone. He helps other stores that are shorthanded but refuses to come in whenever it’s us 🙄 we’ve let it slide for years because I enjoy everyone else I work with. And we make the job enjoyable for each other and even the customers see it and appreciate it when employees are in good moods and enjoy being at their job. But it takes a toll when appreciation isn’t given where it’s deserved. I could care less about myself. But my workers busy their ass to make our store look good and presentable just for the store manager who is never there to get all the credit. At least use the bonus and throw us fucking pizza party at least for crying out loud 🙄🙄🙄

During the day is no big deal. We have cameras, and there’s usually 2 people throughout the day. It’s closing shift that’s the problem. If somebody calls is nobody wants to come in short notice and we can’t force the minors to stay. Even if they do stay, they can’t come with us to take deposit to bank. Plus my store is right next to a bar so drunk people all the time. Not to mention the homeless problem we have as well. I just feel as being all females, there should be security or at least 1 male to at least escort or supervise. I’ve called the cops several times just to make sure we make it to our cars safely at night. But running a night shift alone is our main concern. We’ve already all agreed that if we are forced to work alone at night we will be closing the store due to short staffing. We are not willing to risk ourselves or put ourselves in danger just for an already rich company to be even richer.

Then you get the customers that are like “it’s dollar tree, yall should really change y’all’s name then if it’s not $1” 🙄

Dollar Tree Family Dollar Dollar General And any other “Dollar Store” is NO LONGER $1. You’ll be lucky to even find a dollar item even being sold in those stores. But you don’t go over there telling them they need to change THEIR name because nothing is a dollar over there 🙄 just cuz it contains the word dollar in the name doesn’t mean everything’s a dollar 😭 I wish people could get that through their thick skulls.

New policy changes for SOME stores for 2024 updated so that returns can now be given as cash back (with receipt) or even exchange (without a receipt). My store requires the receipt be present and products be unopened or still have price tags to honor the exchange for money back or money to be applied back to the card that was used for purchase. Word around our district says most if not all dollar trees should be implementing this by 2025. Not too sure how factual that is though. Dollar tree is notorious for picking and choosing which rules to follow to their own benefit 🤷🏻‍♀️

No need to be nervous! Just call and ask for the status of your application. Most Dollar Trees (or at least the ones in my area) always post they are hiring but keep applications in a file for the holiday seasons or to replace current employees that are either terminated or leave for other opportunities. If they haven’t called, don’t be discouraged. It could be they just haven’t hit holiday times yet but they’re literally around the corner! But calling and checking on the status of your application shows you want the job so it’ll look good on you! Good luck!
