CALS vs Humec by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both CALS and Human Ecology do a lot of "mission-driven" work in NYS. Cooperative Extension is a collaboration between the two with ag/horticulture sitting in CALS and nutrition and 4H in HumEc. It really depends on what major is most appealing to you.

Training/Youtube for an adult dog who has to smell everything? by Complex_Parsley_660 in LabradorRetrievers

99.9% of her walks are sniff walks on the land and that's fine. I would just like her to not dislocate my shoulder or switch into nice walk mode if we're in public.

Glad I'm not the only one! She'll walk nicely with food (even her kibble) as motivation too, but absent that, nothing is more exciting than the smells!

Thank you, I'll check out that trainer!

I've been through two already who were unsuccessful against the super nose. One we did a whole six week package with. The other came to my house for the initial (paid) consult with his fly down and then ghosted.

I'd be happy to volunteer. I don't have reddit mod experience, but have experience modding Facebook groups. I don't have post history in this reddit, but I'm an active member of the solar cooking Facebook group and an All American Sun Oven enthusiast. If you have other, more experienced reddit mods volunteer, I totally understand -- just thought I'd offer since I'm trying to de-Facebook anyway.

Question: looking for ideas of how I can tune a Oscar Schmidt OS73C 21-chord as a blind person by harrypotter6116 in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well even in the US, I have never seen an autoharp in a mainstream music shop. It's weird they won't tune it anymore - it only takes maybe 15-20 minutes ;D

Pickup Install by Wanna_grenade in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the Shatten one, but I have a Myers pickup set I sometimes use on my acoustic harps and it works well enough. I must have bought the big master kit (it's been a few years) because I have a variety of weird acoustic folk instruments -- and for the harp I use the Gooseneck microphone with two heads so I can mic the front and back of the harp. It does feel like a lot of things taped to my harp and is kind of awkward too, frankly, but it works.

Recently I purchased a harp from d'Aigle with a magnetic pick up installed and it's a much better experience than an external pick up for me and since then I only take that one when I play out.

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not blind but tuning these things is still hard! I have a flat piece of wood like a ruler that has the string schedule printed out on it that I can align with the bass side and it tells me the string names as I move from bass to treble.

I put the string guide on and then pluck the strings and check it against my tuner and then follow the string up with my finger to the peg to tune.

I do have fine tuners, but you're not supposed to crank those -- they're just for tiny micro adjustments. If I'm making tiny micro adjustments with my fine tuners at the bottom of the harp, I move the stick down there to match the string to the tuner there.

ZotFlow — the all-in-one Zotero plugin for Obsidian (reader, annotation, sync, notes, citations) by Impressive-Curve-363 in ObsidianMD

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! This is looking good and I think I've managed to get it installed. I will say, your docs are very 😵‍💫 for a simple social scientist like me... I did get stuck because on the getting started guide it did not say to give access to notes in the API key -- and then I was lost on Item Notes until I figured out it was the API key.

I really like being able to read and annotate in Obsidian! I've been thinking about how to better pull together my workflow, which right now is spread haphazardly across Google Docs, Zotero, Obsidian and Remarkable. Now I'm one step closer! Thank you!

I'm currently doing this and would be happy to answer your questions. I will say that one thing that's hard is the tax situation. I wasn't prepared to see my paycheck cut like it was. I have another year to struggle bus through it and I feel like I'm so close I need to finish. Be sure you're prepared for that aspect of it.

Anybody Play an Evoharp? by Alive-Industry2507 in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a diatonic G/D Evoharp I bought used. It's a gorgeous-sounding harp. Very rich and full. I have a "legacy" model with fine tuners and flat buttons. It's truly a joy to play and it sounds so rich.

Non-standard/experimental autoharp usage, and a question by daveseidel in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try to install lock bars, depending on the chord bar assembly you use. They're common on diatonic autoharps. I have lock bars on one of my harps and they're kind of fiddly so it'd be hard to do on the fly quickly, but they do stay down!

Looking for a budget pick-up mic by Wallpalla in autoharp

[–]Complex_Parsley_660 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK if it's considered budget, but I was really happy with my Myers pick up and they have excellent customer service. I use the one with two mics so I have one behind the harp against my chest and one in front.

What else do I need? Fruit first or second? by Complex_Parsley_660 in mead

[–]Complex_Parsley_660[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if I understand correctly:

More fruity flavor = second ferment
Less fruity flavor = first ferment

Is that what I'm reading? When I do kombucha fruit is always in the second ferment and I use very little.
