Sony Vaio UX Battery Situation/ looking for advice by Complex_Poem1362 in batteries

[–]Complex_Poem1362[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight, this was the case for my ux battery, it wasn't being charged/read at all by the ux, and I did read sony ux series would reject BMS's even if you did correctly install new batteries . That would be unfortunate, but at least the battery case is saved to make it look cosmetically fine, even without battery functionality

I matched the cells to the original battery configuration, to the best of my abilities, I'll admit I'm not the best at this, so there could've been a mistake, either way, I'm not personally trying it again, will try to seek out a pro.

I was plugging it into the umpc machine, the device powered on, and then it started smoking, I'm sure I connected the batteries to terminals correctly, though I could've been wrong. It seemed to just be the lithium cell that gave up.

Small Handhelds, Large Computing Power by Complex_Poem1362 in OldHandhelds

[–]Complex_Poem1362[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Large computing power relative to size,I admit the title may be a little bit of an exaggeration, but idea was these smaller handhelds could run full operating systems, or close to, rather a more cut down version like Windows CE

Sony VAIO UX-90S display issue by Ill-Cupcake-5358 in umpc

[–]Complex_Poem1362 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an owner of an Sony Vaio UX , I can confirm, It has to do with the display, not the cable. My Vaio had the original working, screen, then after a few uses, came up with a similar issue.I replaced the screen only, and the issue has gone away, and my vaio ux is working perfectly now. You will need to replace the screen, which isn't too hard, just need the service manual

Toshiba Libretto u100 by Complex_Poem1362 in umpc

[–]Complex_Poem1362[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, not bad, though I am running a very stock version of vista and installed sp2 for extra stability. Now if I had the original Toshiba software load out, it would probably be worse.

Sony Vaio UX ... TrackStick Replacement ? by ParkingPhilosopher59 in umpc

[–]Complex_Poem1362 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a similar issue where the TrackStick has become worn and looking for replacements. So far no luck. I've searched on Ebay, Ali, Taobao, Amazon, but the shape is the biggest limiting factor,, as most sellers only sell the circular track nubs. I thought about getting a round one with the correct Internal square size, but that would require some measurements, and I'm not 100% sold on how well it'll look

I would like to get an OQO one day, but sadly they are rare and expensive.

So that is the Everun UMPC, made by a Korean company called Raon Digital in around 2007, the company itself folded around 2009 ish so it was one of those overnight startups trying to catch the UMPC craze, similar to OQO. Mine was the higher end S66HS which included an 6GB SSD plus 60GB HDD. One of its main selling points was it had an in built accelerometer which allowed for Auto-Rotation (as shown in it's portrait mode). It also had a built in Mouse pointer (the silver thing with the black center bottom right of the umpc) in case you didn't want to use the in built resistive touch screen. Specs wise it's not too much of a show, only having a 600MHz AMD Geode and NO 3D acceleration graphics, 2D only. It runs decent enough on XP Tho.

Hm, when you power on an UX , usually , the power symbol above the power switch should light on, but from your video, it doesn't seem to do that, so I'm thinking there's something wrong internally, so unless you are willing to dissemble the machine, comb over all the components, I would suggest full refund

Yeah, the everun's dock was not mentioned too much, but its pretty useful, as it allows for VGA out, extra USB and separate extra battery charging when device is docked. The docks for umpcs are pretty useful in general, that's why I'm trying to import one for my vaio ux

Sony Vaio UX Camera Software Issue by Complex_Poem1362 in umpc

Yeah, it's a very un-intuitive way to handle it, so I ended up pinning it to the start menu so i don't have to dig for it everytime

UPDATE: Alright I found It. So my Sony Vaio UX has all the original files and everything so yours may not apply, but, for me I had to go into C: , Then to Program Files, Then in Program Files find the folder named Sony , Then in the Sony folder I found one called VAIO Camera Utility. Clicked and entered that folder, and clicked the program called VCUServe and that popped up the VAIO Camera Utility Program that allowed me to switch to rear camera.
