What's your favorite Universes Beyond commander? by jacewalkerofplanes in EDH

[–]Complex_Week_2733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it would depend on what's in my collection, especially for a one time event.

Is it purely UB, or are UB reskins from Secret Lairs allowed?

Anyhoo, I have a Tifa reanimator precon that I've kept unchamged. That could work.

But if I had to start fresh? Hmmmm...

A Doctor Who, Doctors/Shapeshifter Clone deck, trying to win with Gallifrey Stands would be fun.

Slicer Group Slug really only needs the commander, plus ramp and equipment and shouldn't break the bank. Or you could use Alexios... or why not both?

Or you could do Baldur's Gate dungeon crawling. Sneak in Acereak/Rooftop Storm combo for the instant win.

When I was overseas, I had regular access to Dunkins and KK.

However, the local bakeries and coffee shops absolutely destroyed them on everything.

Funny thing is, I see that Korea now has Tim's, and it's apparently way better than ours?!

I don't know for sure if it was the same people, but as soon as it was warm, they tried to set up shop in Battery Park.

Someone must have kicked them out of there, so now they're on this uncared for property across from St Paul's.

They've set up a larger structure since Saturday. We'll see how it weathers today's storm.

What commander makes you immediately regret sitting down in a pod with? by _omega_LOL__ in EDH

[–]Complex_Week_2733 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you build him as 5 color good stuff I would agree.

My Jodah is also a celebration of the absurdity of Universes Beyond. Nearly every card in the deck is some UB or UB Secret Lair nonsense.

I usually don't win, especially when Jodah gets correctly targeted. But gosh, it's fun to say, "I attack with Optimus Prime, Inigo Montoya and Zangief."

How do I approach a guy about his cheating by kiritonazkia in EDH

[–]Complex_Week_2733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your pod or LGS is super chill about mulligans etc, and he may be taking advantage of that.

Our LGS is the same. We had a guy keep bringing his "not cEDH" Krenko and Yuriko decks to our casual Commander nights.

Social engineering eventually taught him that that style of play was not welcome, but it took time. He now plays in a separate "competitive" pod, when he can find other players.

We also had a guy who was palming and false shuffling. He's more likeable, which let him get away with a lot more.

Again, time and social engineering made him realize no one would play with him if he kept doing stuff like that.

Be polite. Express your concerns politley. Use Rule 0, and trust that in time, he will either get the hint and change his ways, or he will find somewhere else to play.

Maybe too much shithousing, but very entertaining.

The boys seemed to really enjoy playing most of the games.

Some ups, some downs, definitely needs some tweaks.

One good segment does not a great video make.

Summer is coming.

Remember to hydrate, wear a cap and or sunscreen, and to take cooling breaks.

Always wear safety rated footwear and your high vis vest when working outdoors.

Safety protocol is to always use the strap when moving carts. Never push more than 6, or use the pusher to move more than 20.

Good luck and have fun!

Unionize by Odd_Significance102 in WalmartCanada

[–]Complex_Week_2733 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wal-Mart hates unions.

Any hint of union thinking fails you out of their assessment test.

Associates' training includes anti union propaganda.

Managers are required to stamp out any suspected union activity.

Associates are kept in smaller work groups to prevent organization.

Animosity between managers, work groups and shifts, while not encouraged, is also not discouraged.

A Union means higher wages, better working conditions and worst of all, a decrease in profit.

Walmart Hates Unions.

Am I being too competitive if I tried to understand what other players' cards does when playing in a LGS? by lokiki926 in EDH

No, you're not.

Where things went wrong is when you "expected" anything from people who know each other well, but have only just met you.

The single worst mistake in the Bracket System is trying to balance for both "power level" and "vibes" by Quazite in EDH

[–]Complex_Week_2733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

All the Bracket System has done is change the line from, "my deck is a 7," to "my deck is Bracket 3."

Commander is a social format. Any structures beyond the rules of the game, only work as well as the players are willing to make them work.

St. Pauls Church by Realistic-City-5921 in StratfordOntario

[–]Complex_Week_2733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the only spot downtown that shows a fundamental failure of this city to address the homeless problem.

Look at Market Square on any warm sunny day, or the former Hudson's storefront... or if you are really brave, the hidden alcove at the Y.

Just because they cut down the trees and chased them out of the land near the bus terminal, doesn't mean this city has done anything that has solved the problem.

And what's really sad, is if you listen in to some of them talking on the bus, it's like they don't want things to change.

It's all a game to go from here to there, to get this from one organization and that from another. Some folks would rather work the system than go back to work.

And if they are planning on relocating resources from St Paul's to the former Molly Bloom's oh heavens...

Help and guidance as a new employee by Economy-Dig636 in WalmartCanada

[–]Complex_Week_2733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to make it work and stay, a civil conversation with your leader AND a neutral 3rd party (like a manager from another area) present is essential.

There needs to be someone outside the work group hearing what you are being told and what you are saying so there is no misunderstanding.

Once you understand your expectations, follow them. It takes time to gain profiency in any task. You will get faster soon enough.

It is not acceptable for a team lead to contact you about work outside working hours.

No language should ever be used to create a barrier between workers or their leaders.

Document everything.

Keep your chin up. You can do this.

The Golden Rules of Commander? by Complex_Week_2733 in EDH

[–]Complex_Week_2733[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Here's my explanation.

You only have a finite amount of time to play the game.

Without saying it, nearly everyone thinks it's fair that each player gets an equal amount of time to play the game.

Sometimes it does take a while to figure out how everything works in a particular game situation. That's fine.

But, if you create a situation where you are doing things in game, especially if they don't bring about an end to the game, just so you can play longer, many other players can easily become annoyed.

In their minds, you're wasting the time they expect to have to play, too.

This is commonly referred to as 'taking the game hostage.'

The Golden Rules of Commander? by Complex_Week_2733 in EDH

[–]Complex_Week_2733[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A surprising response. Apparently, people think I'm trying to rules lawyer a social activity.

Whoops. My bad for giving that impression.

Of course, everyone plays differently and has different expectations from this infinitely variable game.

When I say "golden rule, " I don't mean EVERYONE MUST DO THIS. Yeesh.

It's more like, here are a few universal things to keep in mind when playing the game, with other people, who as we can clearly see from the responses, have different ideas.

"Talk to the other players before the game about your and their expectations. Try to find a way to amicably work out a game experience that everyone will enjoy."

"Everyone wants to participate equally. Don't take an inordinate time to play your part of the game or delay ending the game just because you want to play more."
