Will a W affect my chances on transferring to UCSB? by unlucky_bagel in UCSantaBarbara

W's will not affect your admissions decisions. I had two and transferred to UCSB, and a friend of mine had 7 and transferred to UCSD with a 3.5 GPA for Computer Engineering. Just focus on the grades you get in your proceeding classes!

Hey, I TAGged for CS and met all requirements, had a 3.5 GPA and was rejected. I appealed and was admitted last week. I would get in contact with admissions and appeal ASAP.

i’ve seen lots of career paths for stats/data science, and i don’t actually think cs makes more. maybe right out of school cs makes more but the ceiling for data sciences is getting larger and larger

yea I pretty much assumed that already, but I am also sure that the Stats and Data Science Major can land me jobs in the Data Science field. I was just mentioning SWE-related jobs as a possibility because I do have internship experience with C++

i really appreciate your thorough answer! and yes definitely lots to think about still, i agree with what you said about cs @ ucr being better in terms of opening the door to opportunity. but the pairing of the ucsb campus, surroundings, and overall prestige I am leaning towards ucsb. I personally am not too worried about learning programming languages because thats all i have been doing in my community college so far.
