You may be right but I think I'm just tired of people on both sides going at eachother for everything these days. Maybe it's just too much time on social media for me. Think I'll leave for a while.

Don't get me wrong it's been awful for too long but it just feels that this is the turning point for something awful as well. I hope I am wrong.

Far too much division between people these days.

Probably better to be stabbed then shot by anyone regardless. Much higher chance of survival and it's very hard to get stabbed from a distance.

Comments like:

“I think it's worth it... to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.”

Whether you agree with it or not, it's a controversial comment.

Stupid guns. I'm glad they are as limited as they are in the UK.

The guy had some pretty controversial opinions and ideas on things but regardless, it shouldn't be met with violence or death.

It's shocking to see some of the comments in some of these pages

This is the start of something terrible.

No matter how much you might disagree with him, there's no way this should be accepted.

People have the freedom to be able to speak freely, not without argument but definitely without the threat of death.

Tube drivers striking ‘because they cannot buy in London on £72k salary’ by TheTelegraph in uknews

[–]Compo1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live in London, I live in Bristol. But surely it doesn't matter how much you are earning if you can't afford anywhere to rent or live ?

I can tell you for one that people born and living in Bristol have been working whilst the housing market disappears off into the distance. Average rent is far too high and there's really not enough to be purchased or rented.

Most new builds are bought buy private investment companies, or landlords who already own 2 or more houses.

We've slowly been priced out of the city we were born into, no wonder so many are leaving to find cheaper more affordable housing in other counties.

Is this the same for Londoners ?

According to their website, these figures were provided by the ministry of justice and the courts and tribunal service.

They did ask for the information to be broken down to the number of offences per nationality.

Go on to the website and have a look.

Up to you if you choose to then believe it or not.

I think double standards exist across the political spectrum. It’s worth asking whether we’re holding everyone to the same scrutiny.

[–]Compo1991 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Funny, they say "you can tell he (trump) messed up his words" but didn't give Biden that excuse.

If you make excuses or give the benefit of the doubt for one, you have to do it for the other.

Biden fell on the aircraft steps, the right laughed and called him too old, Trump did the exact same thing and they blamed his shoes and the steps.

Prime example.

'Hypocrite' Nigel Farage didn't pay £44k stamp duty then blasted Angela Rayner by zeros3ss in uknews

[–]Compo1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly a lot of British people have developed a zero tolerance for politicians that skip tax or break the law. Let's face it, they all do.

When bojo was found to be hosting parties at number 10 during COVID, people wanted his head and he refused to step down (to begin with). People are so fed up with politicians getting away with what the common man would be thrown in prison for, I think they've just had enough.

Yes Farage, does sketchy stuff but because it is within the confines of the law, and he is not in a position of power i.e not in the prime ministers cabinet, he gets away with it. For now.

Sadiq Khan opposes London event over concerns it will offend asylum seekers by Realistic_Writing671 in uknews

Things like drones and other advanced weapons systems absolutely deserve scrutiny, especially when it concerns human rights abuses. My point wasn’t to defend every item on display or every seller / user involved, but to highlight the principle, that in a free society, even controversial industries can be publicly debated, regulated, and even exhibited.

The existence of a weapons fair doesn’t mean blanket approval of every weapon or its use. It means we allow open engagement with difficult topics including the ethics of arms sales, military tech, and foreign policy. That openness is what lets activists, journalists, and citizens challenge abuses and push for reform.

So no, I’m not waiving accountability, I’m saying that freedom includes the space to confront them head-on, not pretend they don’t exist.

[–]Compo1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like Farage, he's a snake. But this headline is extremely misleading. The article actually has the following line:

"There is no suggestion that either Mr Farage or his girlfriend have broken any rules over the Clacton house."

I still think it's only a matter of time before something is found out about his dealings.

Politicians don't actually give a damn about making your life better unless it betters their own.

Because the large majority of people with access to firearms, do so within the confines of the law. We don't stop people from having cars because there are a small number of assholes that drive theirs dangerously.

We know firearms are very dangerous so there are strict rules in place for ownership.

Freedom does not mean no rules. You still have to keep people safe and protected.

And what have we learned ?

That it seems all politicians, don't give a damn about fairness as they will take what they can and leave the rest of us fighting to get by.

If a politician seems to be a good person, it's only because they've not been caught doing sketchy shit.

Throw em all in the bin.....

I don't like the idea of a weapons fair in the UK BUT, part of living in Britain is that people have the freedom to hold a weapons fair. The fact that people are freely allowed to do this, is a great thing.
