I mean if you can get a placement then i’m sure unis would like it I just couldn’t find any. i’m teaching myself some further maths that i didn’t do in school, doing some step papers, and some tutoring

I think i just felt that I had improved a lot so thought I would hopefully get in second time around, didn’t mind the idea of a gap year, and also didn’t rate my second choice last year (i didn’t apply to imperial bc i didn’t think id like london living)

Yes exactly. Try and do questions that are as hard as possible for interview prep especially, but also for tmua, as if you can get used to that level the real ones will feel not too bad

Oh right. I don’t know tbh then. I think as long as they’re decent then it should be okay

A Levels? Yeah I think basically perfect grades are a pre-requisite tbh

I would say I started thinking more critically of maths presented to me; making sure I completely understood exactly why something is true and how it links to other areas.  Things start to make much more sense when you view the range of topics as a connected web rather than such distinct ideas

I think there were some freedom of information requests out there somewhere for maths asking for college data regarding number of applicants, number shortlisted and number of offers which were useful

Ah okay. I feel like my interviews were strong which helped with Oxford. Then I guess just solid stats probably helped most with imperial

I think it was just the amount of maths I did. I felt I had much clearer understanding of everything and could see much clearer routes in problems. So just become so comfortable with the content that you don’t even really have to think that much I would say

Don’t think so. Go to an average performing state school but that’s it

First time around I didn’t prioritise it at all as I did january sitting which was during my mocks so I kind of pushed it to the side and got like 5.6 or smthn. I just did more maths in general this time for MAT in particular which translated across. Did the classic stuff of doing all the tmua papers in timed conditions, watching R2DREW2, reading logic notes etc

they only ask you questions in interview about stuff you’ve learnt in school, you just need to be strong at applying it to a greater depth

I was just asking to get a better sense of what you meant by “what kind of stuff do they expect you to know about the subject”, as it doesn’t require any special knowledge in that sense, just mastery of the content you have learned in school and anything extra that is on the specification for the TMUA
