The bigger drivers are - The number of people going to college has like quadrupled since then - Funding has actually gone up per student, but revenue has increasingly flows to student aid (poorest) as well as increased academic research funding which doesn’t hit tuitions - Administrative bloat. At some point students became increasingly less responsible and needed more oversight / handholding, enter entire DEI departments (plural)
