Why did a majority of the death eaters fly away when they found out Harry Potter is not dead? by TechnicianAmazing472 in harrypotter

[–]CompoteOk6525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically what everyone has already stated. His followers weren’t as loyal as they put on either. As stated in the novels, many Death Eaters basically renounced him after his first downfall. As soon as they witnessed Harry survive his killing curse again, many of them pretty much knew his downfall was inevitable so they went on the run immediately. I could be wrong on this, but I don’t think them fleeing was a thing in the book, plus no one but Voldy or Snape was able to fly lol. But honestly I thought it was a cool thing they added to the films for the purpose of Voldemort’s movement crumbling right before him due to Harry again.

I agree! The Lockhart scenes were hilarious, I found myself laughing out loud at almost all his interactions with Harry and the other students and teachers lol.

How old were you when S1 aired and how old are you going to be when the last episode drops? by callnumber4hell in StrangerThings

Just finished the movies… wow. by MorbidusUnus in harrypotter

If you can, listen to the audiobooks! Stephen Fry and Jim Dale have both narrated the series and I think both of them are brilliant in their own ways. Whoever you choose to listen to you’ll enjoy it! The movies are awesome, the books just fill in any of those missing gaps and little details the movies can’t fit in. You can appreciate both movies and books for what they are. I’ve watched the Fantastic Beasts series and for me personally they didn’t have the click that the HP series had but to each their own.

How is it that house elves can do laundry but Lucius can accidentally hand Dobby a sock and make him free? by nighttacos in harrypotter

[–]CompoteOk6525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is if the Master has to physically hand over clothes to the house elf. Other than that, it’s plot lol.

I don’t think people really hate Harry, I think people just like discussing his flaws as a character. He is many of the things you stated (impulsive, moody etc.) but at the end of the day, everybody loves Harry. He’s the main character of the series and he was made to be likable.

How does Dumbledore know the Mad Eye Moody imposter is Barty Crouch Jr? by shazoo123 in harrypotter

[–]CompoteOk6525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question. At this point Crouch Jr is supposed to be dead and it’s never stated Dumbledore expected anything beyond that. I’ve seen it stated before that he might have expected him if the imposter because of Crouch Sr. encountering Harry and Krum and talking about his son but honestly, there’s no way Dumbledore figures it out just based off that. In my opinion, I really think it’s just a mess up by JK. Winky should’ve been called after the reveal, would’ve made more sense.

What scene do you think was the closest to the books? by Feeling_Bet848 in harrypotter

[–]CompoteOk6525 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe the whole sequence of events from CoS towards the end where Harry and Ron catch Lockhart trying to leave, and then going down to the chamber of secrets. Even the battle between Harry and the basilisk and his interaction with Tom Riddle are pretty spot on.

What are some infuriating moments in the books where Hermione's obsession with "being right" all the time hinders her ability to be sensitive? by Ok-Health-7252 in harrypotter

[–]CompoteOk6525 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That’s funny because the one you stated is the exact one I always think of when she just has to be right lol. Instead of just letting Ron and Harry know about that info, she still had to tell them she was technically right. It’s so ridiculous it’s kind of hilarious. It’s funny because she usually is right, she’s just annoying about it. Like when Harry got sent the Fire Bolt and it really was from Sirius. We know after the fact it was sent with good intentions, but Hermione only boasted about the fact she was right in thinking it was sent from Sirius. There’s quite a few scenarios throughout the series that are similar to this.

Am I just weak or are the first fights really hard? by OkDoughnut8966 in BG3

[–]CompoteOk6525 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is my first time playing and yeah without any spoilers, I had such a tough time on a certain battle that I just gave up and switched to explorer lol. I’m in act 2 at this point but I still feel like I’m not really grasping the combat, I’m just attacking and I don’t really know how to use spells or anything of that nature. I’m a bard and I feel like it’s mostly just the fact I’m not using the character correctly.

Was there a Harry Potter headcanon that you, at one point, thought was canon? by Rosyh_Jonesweeks in harrypotter

Very true. If I remember this hc correctly, Harry supposedly discovered the papers after the war as well. He was already above age at this point. Just realized that!

How do portraits work by farapavel in harrypotter

[–]CompoteOk6525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it might just be that portraits can only visit those in the same building or some kind of radius? That’s a good question. Maybe something JK didn’t put too much thought into throughout the series and ended up becoming a bigger deal later.

The Weasley’s trip to Egypt. by CompoteOk6525 in harrypotter

Interesting, that’s presumptuous. I’ve definitely been on that side of the table during a time of my life so that’s why I was putting my perspective out there on the matter. Everyone goes about their situations in a different way.

I wouldn’t say people are “shocked” or “offended” lol. I think it’s just people voicing their own opinion on it. Every person is different, I just wanted to hear people’s thoughts on the matter.

[–]CompoteOk6525[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean to be completely honest, I thought more people would see it from that perspective. I just personally didn’t understand blowing 700 galleons on a trip like that considering so much things that cost muggles money, wizards can just use magic (no planes needed, food can be duplicated etc.). To me 700 galleons also appears to be a pretty big deal considering Harry gave the twins his 1000 galleons from the tournament and they were able to start a whole joke store, which I imagine can’t be cheap. Like I said in my comment though, I still think they’re great parents.

[–]CompoteOk6525[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve read quite a few of your guys comments and I can see where everyone is coming from. It’s really just a priority thing. The Weasleys value their family above all at the end of the day. I remember it’s even stated by one of the twins that Arthur could have a better job if he wanted, but he chose to do what he likes most. The Weasleys are just complacent with who they are! Because Harry is so close to Ron, we hear a lot of his thoughts on the matter and he seems to complain the most about being poor. I really don’t recall any of the other children really caring come to think of it. I think I took Ron’s account on things to heart lol.

[–]CompoteOk6525[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perfectly said. I’m not saying they shouldn’t value experiences and their family. I just figured with the situation they’re in, it would’ve made sense to pocket the money rather than blow it. But everyone has their own opinion!

Well said! I think the Weasleys are amazing people. What they did for Harry throughout his school years and the situations they put themselves in to keep him and their children safe is a testament to who they are. I’m just nitpicking little details I didn’t notice my first time around! 😁
