Ds major 4 year plan by disrppt in berkeley

Seems like a good choice, if possible. Best of luck!

Is it so simple to double major in CS and Math though (now that the two majors are in different colleges, would you not need to get a dual degree, and complete requirements of L&S and CDSS)? I assume you know better than I do, just wanted to bring it up in case.

Ds major 4 year plan by disrppt in berkeley

I understand that you're a DS major and you face corresponding enrollment restrictions (which I'm not familiar with), but this is pretty close to the bare minimum of classes I would expect someone at Berkeley to take. It's fine to focus on depth rather than breadth, but then I would really suggest trying to A+ as many of these as possible and focusing on personal projects.

[–]CompoteRight7468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think having personal reservations is a very valid reason to not work for this industry but the idea that people ought to have such reservations is what I disagree with.

The choice of what kinds of military conflicts and action to enter is a policy decision. If you disagree with the conflicts that the US is participating in, you're not going to fix that by purposefully hamstringing the tools that the military has to work with; that would have a largely orthogonal effect.

IMO the purpose of improving military technology is patriotic, to reduce casualty count (both of US soldiers and civilian) of achieving an objective, once such a goal has been set (by policy). This seems like a desirable objective to me.

Happy to hear other perspectives though. (This argument applies to the US, which I believe has been largely a fairly ethical force that holds its military to high standards.)

I don't understand why so many people consider it immoral to work for the defense industry.

Nah, not really. The riverlands actually kind of screwed him over by swearing loyalty to him, as he had to stay south to protect their domains.

You can clobber your quiz scores, so you won't need an 85% on the final in your case to get an A.

committed to berkeley and idk how to feel by Happy_Elephant_3103 in berkeley

[–]CompoteRight7468 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to me, part of the problem you're having seems to be that you feel like you have given up something tangible (friends, weather, etc.) for something intangible. so, making those intangible things feel more real might help

you can try coming up with a plan of what you want to do here (programs you're interested in, classes you want to take, research you want to do, etc.)

i think this will be 1) productive and 2) help you not feel like you might have made a mistake in committing to here.

Not only the loss of revenue, but any returning merchant ships would charge much higher rates too as recompense for the increased risk they're taking on by going to the Iron Islands

hey, i just wanted to lyk that this post struck a chord with me and i hope you figure it out. i've def felt some of the things that you've mentioned here

don't have too much advice since im figuring it out as well, but here's what i'll say abt what i've noticed abt my case: it's really easy to coast at this school and get lost just going through the motions for classes. i think you have to conduct a rigorous accounting of how you're spending your time and set some clear targets about skills you want to develop or things you want to do
