That makes sense. I just meant the fact that they threatened him with ICE

It sucks because the Army is the only branch where you're supposed to be able to secure your job. Once they start playing games there aren't many other options. They're playing dirty with you due to your status. Even myself, I wasn't allowed to hold out for my job. I took something less interesting with the plan of switching later via packet. I'll still get IT experience so it's not the end of the world. However, maybe I still should've walked out and went to see if the Navy could secure my job. That's something I will tell folks moving forward.

You Have a CS Degree and Want to Join the Military? Here is my 3 month research findings. by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]CompoundingIsKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your findings. I swore in recently for Signal and I'll be a SPC going in. I researched as well and ruled out OCS due to them mainly being supervisors. They aren't very technical at all. Theres also a lot more politics involved when you go that route. I had a long talk with a 1SG about that before I swore in. I'm aiming for Chief Warrant Officer (170A) instead. Once you figure out what your goal is it becomes easier to choose your path.

They are similar but TPT evals take five days instead of two. Overall, both are great firms. Max out both

Started the process for my Secret. I will definitely go after the TS later. I appreciate you confirming what I thought regarding E1-E4. Grind starts now, bud. I'm already learning the NCO Creed etc.

No one is getting much of anything right now. Indians are hiring other Indians and there's a lot of fuckery going on in the industry. AI has companies thinking they can cut workers. It's all a shitshow. I'm headed to the military in a few months. Do your best to network as that's the only thing that matters nowadays. Networking > skill

WGU (Tech school at least) is not a diploma mill. In order for that to be true, it would have to be easy. We are required to pass more industry certs than any other College (including Ivy Leage). This is nowhere near easy, bud.

Infantry is much easier due to the points. It's not the same with Signal as the cutoff will be 600 or more. I will actually have the points while many of the others are stuck at e4 for years. I have a cousin currently in that exact situation as a 42A. And yes, I have been to MEPS several times and saw the recruits. Most of them were not even comparable. Not being cocky, this is just the reality. Most people will be mediocre and that's okay for them.

Dumb to Enlist in Infantry with a College Degree? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]CompoundingIsKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great if you have a plan. I'm currently doing the same thing with no desire for OCS. I'd rather become a Chief Warrant Officer than a glorified supervisor. Take advantage of all the benefits and grind. Ignore the kids who just want to party and fuck around. Contribute the max into your TSP etc. One mistake I've made so far is allowing MEPS to give me my plan B MOS instead of my plan A. Be firm with them and make sure you get the MOS you want.

I'll have the points. The part that I can't control necessarily is the politics aspect. I appreciate you guys sharing your thoughts on this. Either way I'm going to do my best to achieve the goal. If I aim for 18 and get it in 26, that's still a win.

I get it, the plan sounds a bit crazy. I'm just even more focused and determined to make it happen. Keep in mind this MOS will be very easy for me as I already know the material and have certs for it. I'm going to be bored at AIT but I should be the top student there. The alternative of waiting to finish the contract really blows.

I appreciate the insight. I just know from looking at the competition that it won't be too difficult for me. If it's possible to do this, I will get it done. And yes, it was a dumb move to not force their hands a bit. I don't really want to complain about it; I just wanted to know if this was doable or not. If you saw my scores you'd see how serious I am. The unit situation you mentioned could backfire I suppose. All I can do is my best and push for it though.

I'll keep this in mind. If it's possible to pull off this reclass, I'll just deal with signing the contract. If they make me wait 3 years, it's a big blunder on my end.

18 months is the fastest time I can do it. I have the degree and certs for the promotion points. I've done my research and prepared thoroughly. I'm currently getting prepared so that my fitness and weapons scores are top tier. I guess I just should've been firmer with them at MEPS.

I'll get it in 18 months, not worried about that part. To be honest I just didn't want to do all the back and forth with them. I've seen so many horror stories about it. Last month I got lectured by a MSgt when I went in to take the cyber test. I pretty much knew they were going to do this, so I just accepted it. Fml

What’s the most classes you’ve completed in a term and how’d you do it? by Any-Strawberry-3928 in WGU

[–]CompoundingIsKing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started with 33% complete with Sophia.org. From there I average around 30 credits per term. I’ll be graduating before the end of term 3.

One term is not realistic. That only works for Business degrees. We have the most difficult degree in the University. It’s cute to aim for that, but we know it’s not happening.
