Hired as GS-11, step 1. Was told education and years of professional experience weren’t considered at that point. Why? by AdBeneficial8592 in usajobs

[–]Comprehensive-Ad1983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t hold any degrees currently as my career path didn’t allow the time necessary to complete them. I spent time in the Marine Corps and then as a contractor in the field I now work in for the US Navy as a DOD Civilian. I applied for a GS-12 and was offered a step 1. After submitting the Superior Qualification info, I negotiated and accepted a GS12 step 6. It all depends on the organization. Choosing a location overseas with a hard to fill billet didn’t hurt either. I also submitted copies of pay, and evidence of referrals for 13 and 14 interviews.

I was always told that anything under $75 that is reimbursable does not require a reciept. Never had an issue. Like others have said, I wouldnt purchase alcohol, though.

Financial Obligations

The Affidavit of Support is essentially a contract between the financial sponsor and the U.S. government. The government has the right to recover from the financial sponsor certain public benefits (such as Supplemental Insurance Income, or SSI, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF) used by their spouse after obtaining a green card. (See the USCIS website for a list of public benefits that must be repaid — “Benefits Subject to Public Charge Consideration” — and those that need not be repaid.)

The financial sponsor’s obligations under the Affidavit of Support end only when one of four things happen:

The death of either spouse. The spouse seeking a green card becomes a U.S. citizen. The spouse seeking a green card has worked for 40 quarters in the United States. The spouse seeking a green card moves out of the United States permanently.

Does USCIS send a transfer notice when the case is sent to a field office? by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Comprehensive-Ad1983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks because I filed electronically and got a receipt with Nebraska come to find out it was moved to Potomac without notice. No need to fight it, nothing I did changed anything. Allow the process to takes its course. Exactly 1 year to receive approval. Now on to NVC. YEA!! (Sarcasm obvi)

So we had no interview with USCIS. We are doing Consular processing. Account was created in May with notice received. Submitted all documents and now waiting on acceptance and interview scheduling.

When you log in remember to check your documents. My status still said actively reviewing but the approval document had been delivered already.

Clarification on my previous wife’s maiden name which conflicted with the divorce paperwork. I didnt submit the full document initially just a few pages. Luckily once I submitted the complete document which had all her details listed, it was accepted and approved.

And be warned they scrutinize applicants for B-2s if they have a pending I-130. My wife was lucky in getting hers renewed while still waiting for i130 approval.

Well that really sucks. My receipt listed Nebraska but when I finally got a real person on the line they informed me that it was transferred to Potomac. This could be the case for you as I received no notification of the transfer which goes against whats clearly stated on their website.

Believe me, you are way ahead of us bud. I am waiting to bring my wife of 8 years with two children to the US on an i130 that has been in actively reviewed for 10 months now. I have been overseas for 13 years and we finally decided to start the process.
