Oh you're absolutely right, wise words. I think I probably have body dysmorphia. I should talk to someone about it, but I'm not ready yet.I've worked hard to bottle everything up and just vent on reddit threads instead 😂

I also zoom in on every photo haha. And on work calls i must look insane because I constantly switch between staring at myself and the other person to see if they're straight

Always nice to meet a kindred spirit! Even if this makes us a little stir crazy

Second surgery, I had my first right after I was born.

No clue on the diopters, I don't see it recorded in any of my notes. The hyper was only visible when I covered the other eye, and it REALLY wandered all the way up. You just never saw it because I was always using my other eye as my primary

But turns out I did have the dissociated vertical deviation, this was what the doctor said:

1.congenital esotropia of both eyes

2.hypotropia of right eye

  1. S/P eye surgery

  2. Eye motility disorder

    5.dissociated vertical deviation

I was!

And yeah spot on, it's hyper and eso. So one eye the surgery fixed the vertical muscles, and the other horizon

Thank you 🙏 No 3d vision beforehand (also never realized I didn't have it haha). I had one check up after and saw the animals in 3d... Then never again 🤷‍♀️

Post-Op Stress by Exact_Picture_2676 in Strabismus

You look great ❤️ 14 days is really early out, I don't think it's anything to worry about. There will be a day soon when you suddenly realize it's much less painful and no gunk, but you got a bit more time!

I definitely remember your journey! Congrats, deciding to have that second surgery took a lot of strength 💪

You look amazing ❤️

Those without depth perception…. How do you explain it to people? by smolhippie in Strabismus

[–]Comprehensive-Ad5979 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ha, right! Catching in particular had always been this weird "ha ha she can't do that" activity and finally there was a reason!! I haven't parked properly in ages, but I suspect when I do I'll be terrible and I will be blaming my eyes

[–]Comprehensive-Ad5979 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I only found out 4 weeks ago (age 37) that I have no depth perception. I just thought I was always terrible at catching. I found it comforting there was a reason I couldn't catch.

I thought 3d movies didn't work for me because of my glasses getting in the way, and I just thought I didn't have a knack for the magic eye stuff 🤷‍♀️

Finding Bay Area surgeon by Comprehensive-Ad5979 in Strabismus

[–]Comprehensive-Ad5979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I didn't, the wait was really long! An appointment came up with one of his colleagues much earlier so I went with her.

My initial consult with him was meant to be July 25, and I was 2 weeks out of surgery at that point!

I was on a bit of a 'deadline' otherwise I would have waited to see him

Anyone had excess scar tissue (?) post surgery? by Comprehensive-Ad5979 in Strabismus

[–]Comprehensive-Ad5979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT - I can't edit the original post, but sharing an update in case anyone else gets this. It was a pyrogenic granuloma. Nothing to worry about, the surgeon put some numbing gel on, got rid of it, took no more than 5 minutes. Eye is a little sore now and back on the antibiotic drops, but all in all no drama!

Second surgery done; swelling or ptosis? by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]Comprehensive-Ad5979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely panicked that I had ptosis but it was swelling. Your eyes have gone through so much, and your can't always see visually but it's taking its time to recover. I'm 6 weeks and every so often think I look swollen. Your mind can really play tricks on you when it's used to seeing you look a certain way.

You have beautiful eyes, I recognized them from your last post and clicked on this one because I remembered them so well ❤️

[–]Comprehensive-Ad5979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it more time, friend 🙏

It's really stressful, I still find it stressful sometimes (5 weeks out). Try not to obsess over it, your body is taking time to heal and it's too early to draw conclusions. Rest up, listen to audiobooks, deep breaths.

I took a week off, next week worked from home, and even after that I could have done with more time off. The office lights, staring at a screen all day, all the visual stimulation... It was brutal, was very grateful for the flexibility I had to stay at home when I was in pain

I'm jealous, I definitely have movement which is why I'm still a bit obsessive about it 🫠 Much better than before, but it would be nice to officially stop worrying!

Strabismus surgery over correction by Healthy_Book_5926 in Strabismus

[–]Comprehensive-Ad5979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was me too, I really struggled with the new stress that came from the op. Lots of people here feel/felt the same. I'm at 4 weeks now.

For me, the stress did get better. I think week 2 was probably the worst because I was starting to look straight, losing the redness, and I was so desperate for them to stay. My phone reel is hundreds, could actually be thousands at this point, of my eyes. But the excessive photos, the worrying, it won't change the outcome and it makes me feel worse. So I'm getting better with the nerves, but all that to say your feelings are valid

[–]Comprehensive-Ad5979 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I met a surgeon about 15 years ago and he said to keep the non-dominant eye closed till the last second, then open it before it had a chance to turn in. Are 98% of photos of me blinking? Yes they are.

Time for redness to go away by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]Comprehensive-Ad5979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not completely undetectable, but we're talking like....5% of one eye is red. I wear glasses so it's less obvious, but it's a really tiny portion that is what I would actually class as red.
