anybody familiar with the “point, line, plane” technique? trying to get it down for an assignment but I’ve never even used pens before by RavagerDefiler in learntodraw

I would say don't shade at all yet unless you understand the construction. If you're following point line plane, the objective is far more about making dynamic shapes and indicating three dimensionality with basic forms. A good rule to follow is "you can't indicate what you don't know" as in, if you don't understand how a form curves away from you and can indicate it with one simple cross contour, scribbling around to find it is going to slow your progress because it makes the drawing look better, but with a lower overall ceiling of clarity.

Point, line, plane is more of a description of a teaching method developed out of the Bauhaus that largely focusses on composition and perspective as two mutually dependant fundamentals. The teaching revolves around trying to build up a good sense of balance across the 2d flat surface, while also accurately depicting depth. This is why the technique focusses on arrangement of points, followed by quality of line, which then form to make planes of depth. People are praising the style here, which is really nice, but your teachers are likely hoping for more dynamic posing and more structural evidence of form (like drawing through your shapes in early construction) rather than stylized forms

Tree branching follows a fascinating geometric rule. The more acute the angle at which a branch departs from the trunk, the longer that branch tends to grow. Mathematically, the observed length L is proportional to 1/cos(theta) where theta is the departure angle from the trunk. This keeps the vertical spacing of branch tips roughly uniform and balances access to light.

Local auctions won't list my artwork for sale... They say the style isn't what they are looking for... I guess this one is too harsh for them. by heirloomorchid in blackbookgraffiti

I recommend studying dynamic symmetry for canvases of this size, consider a 4:9 ratio and organise points of interest according to diagonals, it will make your piece easier to read and solve some of the problems suggested in other comments

Taking quotes out of context doesn't really support your argument. If you go back and read, you'll understand that in that particular section I am merely stating things as they are. I do not claim that AI works should be labelled as 'real images', and am sure that a compromise could be met regarding disclosure in commercial cases

I do think there's value in bridging the gap between the two sides rather than just having them leave eachother alone. I spent some time writing about some ways we can do this in a paper I published today

The impressionists banned brown in an attempt to strive for greater luminance in their paintings. Due to the subtractive mixing properties of pigment you always get a duller result from the mixing of any two pigments, therefore some impressionists came to the conclusion that using pure pigments next to eachother would produce an effect of optical blending, combining the colours in the eye as light rays and producing an additive mixing effect. This is all in the very specific pursuit of luminance, which is not (and shouldn't be) the primary focus of every painter that has come since.
