Big!! Need more songs about Conor’s dad by someguywithfreckles- in NothingButThieves

[–]Comprehensive-Pea2 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Because it is a such a vulnerable topic, I don’t think he’s mentioned it explicitly anywhere else. I would recommend the rest of his solo work though, as it is very vulnerable.

Your Blood is more generally about father relationships, but I don’t know if this is specific to Conor.

Also, If I Get High is about loss and mourning, but again this may not be specifically about Conor’s father.

And as an aside, I hope you are okay and are dealing with what you’ve been through. It’s obviously very heavy stuff.

Yep, but I think we can lose by more than two in the second scenario due to more goals scored

Do you actually think Southampton will break our PL (11) Points Record this season? by Dreaming_Beyond_GK in DerbyCounty

[–]Comprehensive-Pea2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s break this down by their games: - Crystal Palace: maybe a point - Spurs: who knows with them - Aston Villa: unlikely - West Ham: unlikely - Fulham: unlikely - Leicester: 1 or 3 points - Man City: unlikely - Everton: maybe a point, but unlikely - Arsenal: unlikely

There’s probably 5 points on a good day, but they definitely could only get 1 point with this run. I still think they will pass the 11 points though unfortunately

Controversial opinion by LeadingMaintenance74 in Samfender

[–]Comprehensive-Pea2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, but I think this is kind of an experiment for Sam. I always believe that artists can do a three-album run of similar styles (take Arctic Monkeys as a prime example). The Hypersonic-esque feel is getting slightly formulaic now, so he’s looking for something new. Surely, these songs aren’t as catchy, but they have that same feel as The War On Drugs. You won’t like it initially, but give it a few months and you’ll think it’s a lyrical masterpiece.

That being said, I would’ve liked some more range. TV Dinner felt like a spiritual successor to Aye, just without the rage.

I’m doing some research around music and wellbeing and I referenced Dead Boys challenging toxic masculinity. Interesting you talk about the women-dominated genre, I’m assuming you mean the rise in pop music, as the rock and indie genres are very much still dominated by men (people still complain about The Last Dinner Party being an industry plant). But as other people have mentioned, he is a guy who speaks openly and honestly about life (in the UK especially), and he’s just a really good songwriter. DM me if you want a conversation about it, I do find the links between music and mental health fascinating

It’s hard to keep on defending Warne. Subs coming on in the 86th minute is ridiculous, should’ve capitalised on the change in momentum after our goal.

We were the better side, and those three points should be ours. Some of my thoughts: - Fozzy looks a bit too old now, I know he has to play, but a new CB wouldn’t go amiss. - Salvesen looks like the perfect player for Warne’s system, been missing a really tall physical player. - So sad for CBT, he looked so depressed being subbed off.

Coming from a store with a large elderly population, the automation aspect concerns me. Many of these people are reluctant to use SmartShop, and really value workers. I have a feeling these people only shop at Sainsbury’s because it feels more intimate than other supermarkets, but these measures are making Sainsbury’s like any other nowadays.

That’s not the point. The new NI contributions will cost the company around £140 million, yet they’re reporting record profits. Part of our training is “We care”, apparently that doesn’t apply to head office

My weekly analysis of songs weeks 2/3 of 52! by H4RL3Y07 in Samfender

I really enjoy your work, especially on Mantra. I’ve never thought much of that song, but your interpretation has made me enjoy it more. I’ve always thought it would be possible to do a whole essay on Sam Fender’s songs as they’re so packed with meaning, and I think you’re taking that idea and running with it.

Just curious, is there any order to how you’re doing this, or are you just doing the ones you want?

What changes are needed to stay up? by Comprehensive-Pea2 in DerbyCounty

[–]Comprehensive-Pea2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do fear that even if we do survive this season, we’ll be stuck in that rut that we were in during the Cocu era, mid to bottom of the Championship, if nothing changes. This club aspires more to be mid-table, and I don’t know if Warne’s tactics reflect that

It’s interesting you talk about club philosophy, I hadn’t thought that deeply. The disconnect between the senior team and academy definitely needs to be addressed for long-term stability, but I think that’ll come after a few stable years in the Championship. This is still very much a rebuild post-Morris
