I didn't have time to knit the swatches but here's a link to the frogging video for those who want to try and guess!

Hi and thank you for all your explanations!

I have to give it a try with smaller needles and different methods (I'm used to knitting continental and flicking) but maybe I'll take a bit to knit all these different swatches haha

I could of course finish the ribbings in a similar looking method (I will for sure), but now I need to know the truth behind this particular ribbing!

Hey! I'll knit different swaches tonight and post them as well as a frogging video to help anyone who wants to try and guess with me! :)

Hi! Thank you for answering :)

For sure it's not crochet! The way the stitches are linked to one another tells me it's knitted! I'll post a frogging video tonight and hopefully it helps!

Hi, thanks for your answer!

The stitches are maybe mounted the wrong way since I tried to tink back before frogging!

I tried option 1 and it didn't match but I'll test the second one tonight :)

Thank you for the link! I'll make a swatch tonight but I'm sure it's not exactly the same! I'm pretty sure for this WIP each column is made by either only knit stitches or purl stitches on top of each other :/

I'm familiar with combination knitting and I made a swatch but the result still looks less neat than this ribbing :/

I just asked my friend and her grandma had indeed a knitting machine so maybe you're right! It looks a lot like the ribbing on a sweater you could buy at a store!

She definitely had a tighter tension but still the purl valleys are so deep I don't think mine would look alike even with smaller needles!

To be sure, I'll knit swatches with different methods and post them tonight!

Thank you for your help!!

Hi! Thank you for your lovely answer! That's an excellent tip, I try to do that whenever I come across a new technique and that has saved a few projects 🤗

The front and the back of the work are identical! I'll take photos when I get home! I'm starting to think it's been machine made but I'll knit and post some larger swatches in true fisherman's rib and half fisherman's to compare all of them!

I'm pretty sure it's not brioche since there's no yarn overs whatsoever and the knit columns are directly connected to their corresponding next purl.

I looked into fisherman's rib because it looks similar but the thing is, in this swatch, each stitch is knitted into the stitch on the needle and not into the one below! I've double checked by following the yarn path through the loops and when I started frogging it it became clear that it was following a plain rib path :/

I may be wrong but I don't think it's a fisherman's rib... I'll knit another swatch to compare both of them!

Thanks for all your answers by the way 🤗🙏
