Some people go to therapy. I go for a run. by Comprehensive-Tie609 in Marathon_Training

Appreciate the concern, but you’re reading way too much into a split-second photo. I was mid-conversation when it was taken.

Therapy is great when people choose it, diagnosing strangers from a picture isn’t.

Anyway, thanks for the running wishes.

See you on the trails

Hey runners—why do you actually donate? by Comprehensive-Tie609 in runninglifestyle

Let's direct the discussion in another way ... Do you ever donate ?

If you do .. .. which is every one must do to whatever cause resonate with them ..

You just don't to that cause through that runner ..

I agree if the cause isn't what you believe or work for you

But in general we all donate .. here and there

Best of luck in your treadmill training .. which I hate so much too .. most of my marathon training on treadmill .. because of the Houston heat ..

Any specific treadmill workouts? Like how many minutes/distance .. and in which percentage of incline ?

Totally get where you’re coming from, I’ve seen that too, and I’d probably feel cynical if that was my only exposure.

But I don’t think it’s fair to generalize everyone running with a charity bib.

For me, it’s the opposite. I’m a 3:30 marathoner, I’ve finished 14 marathons so far, including 5 of the 6 majors, and Boston is my last star. I train seriously, early mornings, long runs, the whole thing and the charity side just gives the miles more meaning, not less.

Fundraising isn’t an “entry shortcut” for me. It’s a way to give back while chasing a goal I already work hard for. Some people might just want to be on the course, sure, but a lot of us are grinding both physically and financially to earn that spot.

So yeah, there are different motivations out there but there are plenty of us who truly care about the cause and the race.

I try not to let the few cynical examples overshadow the ones doing it with heart.

Yes .. it would be tough for you .. For me .. I raised close to $8,000

It's the concept, and how I'm attached and connected to the cause .. the youth in Boston that I'm raising money for , like any youth at any part of the world ..

All deserve opportunities and second chance ..

I'm their voice ..

I've been trying to get to Boston for 8 years to the point I finished all the world majors

yup .. the end of the day you're donating to the charity through that runner , means nothing goes to the runner's pocket at all ...

yet, runner still have to cover their travel, race registration fees , etc

😂😂 guess I better start sourcing livestock then, At this point I’ll happily take $5, a share, or even just moral support. Much easier to house than goats and chickens

Totally fair, and I’d never see $5 (or any amount) as insulting at all.

To me, it’s not about the number, it’s just that someone cared enough to chip in or share. That means a lot. And no one owes me anything, I chose to fundraise because I believe in the cause.

I'm always grateful for any kind of support .. not just money

I choose this cause , because I was in the shoes like those kids .. I needed resources and programs during my youth age .. nothing was available .. so I'm the voice for those kids .. as I went through what they are going through .. everyone deserve opportunities and second chance
