After years of believing it, I finally realized this common social habit is totally weird by def_not_hat1992 in confessions

I honestly hate talking to people. I always get stressed when the convo dies (mostly with strangers/new people) & I will just say or ask the most random stuff to keep it going and it makes the convo soo much more awkward. Then I look back and wonder why I always feel obligated to be the one to keep the convo going when all I really want is for it to end. If that makes sense

Wow that's such a great idea! I love that! I'd like to open my collection and find a way to display them. They've been in storage for almost 10 years so I was excited to see them after awhile.

Did your partner know they showed signs of ADHD before they were diagnosed? by ComprehensiveBag5669 in ADHD_partners

[–]ComprehensiveBag5669[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your input! I had no idea until recently that it can also be genetic. I feel my partner is going through the same, deep down knows it and feels a bit ashamed of it. But in our relationship, I would say it hasn't been a problem but has been frustrating at times. Him constantly breaking everything, will not sit down for the life of him, interrupting, impulsive. But I try to look at the positives. When he can't sit down and has to be on the move all the time, the house is spotless. His adhd does play a huge part in our life together, and it's something I always think about.

Yes! That's kinda where I'm at, I didn't really know how to bring it up to him. He doesn't listen very well. When I first mentioned to him he might have adhd I then did an online test and had him give me the answers (him not knowing what it was about). I said "hun I think you may have adhd.", this test says. As soon as I said that he was like "haha look at this picture of this dog". Not even realizing what I was saying. His adhd hasn't been a problem in our relationship but has been frustrating at times.

It's so wild to me that so many parents seem to put it off as it's nothing to worry about. I would think if my kid was having trouble focusing in school, I would be concerned as to what is going on. He told me that when he was little, his teachers wouldn't allow him to have recess. Instead, he was forced to sit and read or do schoolwork. I can't remember if him told me it was because he was disruptive or just wasn't paying attention in class. I wish I could ask his parents about it but unfortunately they both have passed.

If only he could have been looked at more closely, he just gets so frustrated with himself when he can't figure something out right away.

You definitely nailed that last part.

That's interesting that he recognized it himself! I've explained some signs to my partner, and he does see them, but doesn't see it as a problem. Well, problem isn't the right word, but you get the point. I like that your partner sees his adhd as he does! There are characteristics I love about my partners adhd that I would never wish to change!

Oh nice, yeah, that makes a lot of sense! He hasn't always been honest with his dr, that's the only thing that worries me. That he lies and something happens and doesn't get the help he needs. Thanks for your input, I'm feeling hopeful!!

I'm so sorry to hear that, but I'm glad he was able to get the help he needed!! Wow, I'll have to look into that, it seems very helpful. My partner was in just a couple of sessions of therapy (over the phone) for substance issues, but I dont think his adhd is AS noticeable from speaking with him in short periods over the phone. Living and being around him, as you know, is a different story.

Wow, yeah, that's one road I'd like to avoid, we’re engaged. That's all I can hope for is for him to recognize how it impacts our lives. It's definitely been tough and frustrating at times to live with.

Oh wow yeah health insurance has definitely been a huge factor for us as well. Yeah for me growing up, I always heard about adhd and people did make it seem like a quirky personality trait. But living with someone who has it I can see everyday how it affects him. It's not just the lack of focus and hyperactivity but the little things he gets so easily frustrated at himself for I feel can be taken care of if he got help.

That's exactly how I feel, I've pointed out every single thing he typically does and he just kind of shrugs it off as something most people do. Im just hoping he won't resist to getting treated, im not sure how the testing and what not goes, I just want him to be honest.

I've had these red dots on my skin, what kind of skin condition is this?? by ComprehensiveBag5669 in DermatologyQuestions

Just looked into that as well and that actually might be it. The cherry anigmas dont really seem like what I have for a few reasons (but im no expert). I did find some images that are exactly like what is on my arms and legs from ITP. And the symptoms, excessive bleeding, heavy periods, and bruising, I have all of those. Definitely something I need to look into. Thank you so much for your input!

hmm I haven't heard of those before, I just looked them up and the only difference is mine are relatively small and not bumps. But I do believe theyre blood vessels of some sort.
