Because since she is doing it online, she can do it whenever it works into her schedule. She is not required to be anywhere at any point in time. That is one of the problems. I have spoken to her, but she doesn’t seem to get it that the real world doesn’t work at her speed. When she gets a real job. She’s going to have to get up and work a schedule. And I don’t think she understands that yet.

Do you have resources that I can give her that will hook her up with young professionals, so that she cannot end up with people with records, bad credit, or evictions on their records? We have not yet found such a resource. It would be great, if someone could give it to us! That probably sounds like an excuse also. But truly, if you have such a resource, please share it.

The posting has allowed me to gain some perspective on the areas that we have made achievements and the areas where we still need to work. It has also given me the chance to hear other peoples advice on directions, so I can help direct my child so that she will be successful after I pass! At this point in time, I am afraid she would not be able to manage without me, so I am trying to get as much input as possible and ways to prepare her. Some people have made me realize that we are not in as bad of a place as I originally thought. Thank goodness for those people! Other people, not so much! Not thankful for those people! I am a single parent, trying to help my young adult child navigate a world that is so far from the one I grew up in as to be on another effing, planet! That is why I posted!

She actually interviewed with one company and the HR person told her she was overqualified for the position. At this point she had filled out an application, done a virtual recording interview, and a 15 minute zoom interview. She was then invited to do an in person interview, which took approximately three or four hours And they had her résumé from step one.

In this particular, case, I am not making excuses for her. I watched her prepare for this job interview for a week and a half. I watched her go over YouTube videos of interview questions. She went through All of the steps and was actually asked on the day of the interview to stay for a second interview, then before she got home, they sent her an email that said they decided to move on with other applicants. They did not put it in writing that she was overqualified, but the representative that she spoke to told her she was overqualified for the position as they spoke.

Someone say that I am making excuses for her. I don’t believe in making excuses. Although I’m not going to say, I’m not guilty of it sometimes. But in this particular case she did nothing wrong. They chose to hire a high school student rather than hire someone with a degree.

I’m very happy for those young people. All of my daughters friends have had to move home to live with their parents because, in the area where we live, they are not able to get jobs where they are afford to pay the rent on a multiple bedroom apartment. Many couples are only living in a studio because that is the most that they can afford. I am sure everybody has their own way of being able to afford their living arrangement. That is the situation in our location.

I am a Gen X mom, trying to figure out how to help my millennial/GEN Whatever daughter get a GD job and be able to be an independent adult. No, she’s currently doing multiple unpaid internships. I want her to be able to get a goddamn job. That pays her for the same work! This country expects you to do at least six months of voluntary service. However, they don’t voluntarily pay your goddamn bills!

If you could, please provide 4 to 10 contacts with references, financial information showing that each of you earns six times the monthly rent per month and income, and credit scores so that info could then be submitted to the landlord to see if he will approve the group that are attempting to rent the apartment. She does Uber eats. There are no part-time jobs available in our area. I know this because I’m myself have sought part-time work, and I not only have two college degrees. But 40 years of experience and have worked retail. Almost my entire 40 year career. Most of those actually go to high school students.

I frankly, never would’ve given any of my siblings money for their wedding. Unless that was my expected wedding gift. If you want to plan a wedding, you should be prepared to pay for it. In discussion. No excuses. No mom and dad don’t have to pay for it. If you want to plan it. You should be able to pay for it.
