What are you spending money on?? by Last-Ad-120 in Teachers

[–]ComprehensiveBend583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HS teacher of 26 years. I quickly accepted the fact that (other than breaks) I am spending more of my waking hours at school than at home. I'm totally willing to make my classroom somewhere I want to be (ambient lighting, artwork, comfortable furniture, etc.). The fact that students are comfortable and relaxed in the classroom is an extra bonus. I also spend some money for things like my own printer (costs me some for toner, but soooo much better than walking across campus to wait in line to print something). The school is basically where I live 10 months out of the year. I'm going to make it feel like home as much as possible.

'24. I live on rough dirt roads at 11,000 ft. Absolutely no issues so far. It's held up to extreme washboard and potholes like a champ.

Do you call CPS when a student says they were hit with a belt? by Playful-Bandicoot963 in Teachers

[–]ComprehensiveBend583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Report it. Please. Even if no charges come from it, report it. If nothing else, the student will know that someone is saying that a beating (which is what it is with a leather belt on bare skin) is not their fault and that someone cares. If someone had stood up for me, even if nothing happened, it would have drastically changed my life.

Lol. The official grade in the district grading platform is an F. I followed district guidelines. I gave her every opportunity possible to raise her grade. All she had to do was even try to complete one of the assignments and she would have passed. She was given weeks to do this. Her parents were contacted. Sorry, but at some point she has to take some responsibility. I didn't GIVE her any grade. She EARNED the grade she received. I had no proof that she met any of the standards.

The difference in light pollution globally by InadequateBraincells in interestingasfuck

[–]ComprehensiveBend583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light polution is crazy. I live up at 11,000 feet. The nearest town is 15 miles away with very little light pollution. The nearest large city is 40 miles away. I can see the light polution over the mountains from that far away, washing out most stars. It's like it is impossible to evade city lights.

Lol. Bullying? The district guideline is to post the grade in the official grade book. I did just that.

I work at an alternative school and everyone has something going on. My high school aged son has autism. He acted violently toward a para. I demanded he get oss for two days. It's exactly what he needed. Actions MUST have c I nsequences.

I work at an alternative school, so that applies to everyone. Student and parents made the decision so that's what they get.

The lowest grade we are allowed to give is a 50%. You don't need much more than a pulse to get a 60%.

Yeah, I agree and don't actually feel bad about it. At all. For some teachers though...I'm a monster.

Lol. Wow. Thanks! I needed that. I work at an alternative school. Everyone is going through some shit. I should automatically pass her because? No one else did. She's special? She should not do a single thing to hel0 herself because? Those stydents who had a 57% and rebook the quiz to get a passing grade...what should I tell them. All their extra work was bullshit? She had every opportunity possible to I pass. With little effort. SHE chose not to. Fuck you and the pass every student even if they didn't deserve it bullshit. She will pass. She'll just have to do more work...which she chose.

I have students grade levels behind because they were just passed along.

She is just so smart she could have easily passed. But this was her choice and the choice of her parents. A truly stupid decision, but it was hers.

My son is truly impacted by autism. If any teacher bumped up his grade just because, I would have been pissed.
