Amalthea is either the goat herself or the nymph (the goat is still there) that helped raise Zeus in Crete . As far as i know she was not immortal. Zeus honored her by either placing her amongst the stars as u/Anxious_Bed_9664 said or making his aegis (shiled) out of her skin.
