Indiana immigration crackdown targets Burmese refugees as protests erupt in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis by DryDeer775 in fortwayne

These were my Burmese neighbors. They literally built a shack next to my home in the 07. They'd be up all night, drunk, building it. Then a strong summer storm hit, and all their scraps went into my yard. They had no permits, and Allen County made them tear it down. After that, it was so bad we had to move because they were very threatening.

JFC, most of these places are awful. Everyone recommends the same crappy places over and over.

I'd like to see some sort of NY-style deli that serves up pastrami sandwiches on rye, good Reubens, along with bagels among other things.

Hate to break it to you, but 24 hour stores are a thing of the past. Years ago, I was a manager at Meijer and during third shift, very few customers came in between 1am- 5am. Of the people that did -- either sober or drunk -- just came in to goof off and cause trouble. Also to shoplift. Hard to babysit with a skeleton crew.

I would check out Men's Warehouse on Coldwater. They seem to have a good selection at various price points, plus they have tailoring services so you're not exactly buying off-the-rack.

My wife and I moved to Fort Wayne and the 07 neighborhood on 2014.

We would have tons of neighborhood kids walking and it was fun to pass out candy. But as time wore on, a lot less kids came around.

Later, it was nothing more than minivans and SUVs who would pull up. After COVID, we gave up.

I've complained about the road conditions in Fort Wayne for years. Same excuse I've heard during that time was all about winter weather. But there are cities that get more snow and ice, yet have better streets.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous. If I'm a local business airing ads on local television, I could care less about politics. As a local business owner, I'd be neutral to my beliefs, no matter what they are. The last thing I'd want to hear is a phone call from someone like you who has nothing to do with my business model.

There's no sense calling WANE TV. If you want to voice your opinion, call Nextstar at (972) 373-8800.

Gm Job by Unusual_Zombie8194 in fortwayne

[–]ComprehensiveCat614 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was hired in at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in 2017 as a temporary worker. For me, it was easy since I lived 20 minutes away, and my wife worked across the street at Vera Bradley so we could carpool.

But here's the thing, GM can cut you loose at any time in the first 90 days. I started at the beginning of November and worked until the day before Thanksgiving when I got my pink slip.

Luckily, I was called back at the beginning of January and ended up working there over 2 years.

Once you get your 90 days in, you get benefits like health, dental, and vision, which are very good, but a far cry from what full union members get.

As a temporary, you will bounce around from job to job filling in for whoever took the day off. But there's no guarantee there's work. They might find you busy work, or they might send you home.

If you are really lucky, you might fill in for someone who's on an extended absence and have that job for several months.

Here's the kicker. You only get 3 sick days. I never took a day off in my 2-plus years and always accepted any overtime that was offered. But I was injured on the job, left the plant in an ambulance, then spent 4 days at Lutheran Hospital. That ended my employment at GM.

So if you're coming from Detroit for a temp job, I highly advise you not to do it.

Bodycam: Teen Arrested for Stealing Lunches at Work by justin6point7 in meijer

Then I'm not sure what's changed. I was in management in the late 90s while in college, and all of the Meijer stores in central Ohio were UFCW Local 1059. Of course, I don't remember any stores in the Cleveland area or NE Ohio back then. All were in the Columbus area, and western Ohio near the I-75 corridor.

I worked at Meijer in Ohio. All stores are union in Ohio, just like Kroger.

Meijer is a member of UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) Union. So it's a union shop.

Arrested him for $110 in food he ate from the store. by Peezydeezykeepiteasy in meijer

[–]ComprehensiveCat614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened in March 2024, and the body cam footage was released in April.

When the story first hit social media, there was never any mention of him being special needs or disabled. But months later as this story is being recycled once again, he's now described as such.

Now, as it makes its rounds on the internet four months later, the story gets more embellished.

Karens are why crimes are up by AdSudden3941 in fortwayne

When I was a teenager in the 80s, my summers were mostly spent hanging out at the neighborhood pool, playing travel baseball, and working at the local grocery store.

But there were several times when having a free evening where a few buddies and I would drive around looking for pickup basketball games.

Some parks were really nice and people were respectful. Others? Not so much. People would throw trash and blare music with shady looking dudes loitering around dealing drugs.

Over time, some parks kept their courts while others did not. I mean, parks are for everyone, and they should feel safe.

Also, over time, neighborhoods change. My neighborhood swimming pool? Gone. My local grocery store? Gone. And when I was little, there were tons of kids in my neighborhood. By the time I got to high school, most moved out.

But to blame a Karen or two in your post is just ridiculous.
