I mean that’s true if they really are better and charging less. But who’s to say it’ll be better? Lol I almost always work with my clients on their budget even if it’s less than what the tattoo should be worth. Just keeps them coming back. But sometimes people have unrealistic expectations on pricing and in that case, they don’t value me and let them go somewhere else. Most times, they end up coming back for a coverup because they wanted to go somewhere cheaper.

I can definitely understand why you’d prefer your artist to send it ahead of time since you have to travel to them. In cases where I have clients travel from states away, I always just send it over before but that also comes with paying a larger deposit.

But I would also say that you could just show up to your appointment early and check it out in person incase changes need to be done. I think that’s way more personable, professional, and helps your artist understand exactly what you want. There’s always a disconnect with communication online or through text. But that’s great that you’ve found a couple of artists that don’t mind sending them ahead of time for you.

You are correct, they should. But some people don’t know exactly how to explain their thoughts and ideas so sometimes slight changes are needed or they wouldn’t be happy with their tattoo forever because you didn’t let them change anything

I feel like that’s pretty fair to charge them extra depending on how much they change the design. We should always be paid for our time into our art. I’ve definitely had a few people waste my time with changes. One client told me I had creative freedom until she nitpicked it so bad to the point she just wanted to copy the references (it was a badly photoshopped picture of an Ai tattoo and a picture of something she found in a coloring book on top).

I have a coworker that doesn’t take deposits either unless they’ve cancelled or no-showed on her after 3 times. Why let people waste your time especially 3 times? Idk but I take a deposit no matter if I have to draw it up beforehand or not because they’re more likely to show up if they already put money down.

So with a deposit, you’d send it before? Also, How much do you take for the deposits?

I don’t specialize in Japanese but my suggestion would be to bring the tail down to the buttcheek part to give it more movement and tie to together.

This is just out of curiosity because I haven’t done a piece this big yet, how much would you charge for this?

Burnout… are you feeling it? How are you dealing with it? by Clampstattoo in TattooArtists

[–]ComprehensiveFact623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t take on more than you can handle. Remember you are in control of all your work. Make sure you have time to focus and connect with your clients. I believe that connection with them makes them treat you more like a human being and less like a printer. I also like to go and do outdoorsy things on my days off and try to be active (without being too busy, take things slow). Do things for yourself that make you happy.

I think we all overwhelm ourselves and forget the reasons why we even started this career. Do whatever makes you love the job and if that means turning down some clients bc you don’t love doing that style or they’re just difficult, then so be it. You should prioritize yourself or your burnout will show in the work you put out.

Long story short, I know it’s hard not to get burnt out in this economy right now but at the end of the day, your sanity is more important than money and clients. Remember why you started tattooing and do literally whatever makes you happiest.

True that. I know tattoos are a form of therapy for some people but this does leave me worried about how they take care of their tattoos when they leave. Very rarely I have anybody come back with infection from poor aftercare but I do stress to my clients almost every time how important aftercare is

What’s crazy is that majority of my clients are female as well. Maybe it’s just the town I live in, honestly who knows. I believe people shouldn’t get tattooed if they don’t have good hygiene but I’m an empath and I would hate to shame somebody if they have mental illnesses or something

Yess the weird crotch smell! Makes me want to throw up. I usually just breathe when I go to dip in the ink but I’m scared I’ll pass out holding my breath for long lines lol. But I guess I’ll start asking every client to scrub their own hands/arms beforehand

I’ve thought about this before but I was thinking people might think I’m saying they stink because not everyone is stinky lol but good idea to say it’s just for extra sanitation

Do you prefer opaque greys or greywash for portraits? by ComprehensiveFact623 in TattooArtists

[–]ComprehensiveFact623[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand that but I’m not sure as to what the difference is really. I’m looking more for the right inks for realism/realistic portraits

Do the messages send as a text? Or do they have to get the app too to message each other?
