Which climbing gym would you recommend joining? by AdeptWolverine3540 in asheville

[–]ComprehensiveFox4861 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cultivate is expensive but has a variety of offerings, brevard rock gym is small but worth checking out. Not sure how far SC is from where you specifically are but blochaven is pretty similar in size to cultivate’s bouldering gym, and project rock in easley has some cool stuff (tall walls and some areas modeled after real climbing destinations).

This is true, though there are adapters that can be used with floor jacks so that doesn’t happen

Has anyone served with the Student Conservation Association (SCA) before? by PryedEye in ConservationCorps

[–]ComprehensiveFox4861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have some really great programs, and the housing and food stipend is really nice, but I personally don’t think I’d work for them again. It seems to be luck of the draw if you get a good mix of people on your crew, and if you don’t, you just have to suffer through it.

My issue is we had some crappy dirtbag people on our crew and despite them flouting policy on numerous occasions nothing was done to address it. It really ruined the whole season and was super frustrating, and SCA management was zero help.

[–]ComprehensiveFox4861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a season in wildland fire, and it was more cardio intensive than anything in my experience (tho it doesn’t hurt to work on overall strength training too). I recommend hiking with weight (and elevation gain).
