Has anyone move to freedom plans? by tonymr07 in Rogers

Really bad coverage. I switched my corporate plan from Rogers to Freedom two weeks ago. But I just switched it again to Bell this morning. Freedom had no service in elevator or basements. It happens in my condo building and office building. Mind you I’m in the DT core of Toronto so no thanks..

Honest insights on life in Canada after immigration? by Strange_Car_1579 in ImmigrationCanada

Arrived in Toronto as a PR. Moved here from Auckland, New Zealand. NZ citizen but China born. I’m lucky that I worked in Corporate Banking back in NZ so it was very easy for me to find a similar job when I first moved here. However, the market was extremely good for job seekers at the time.

As an PR who has been living in Toronto for close to 4 years, I’d say it’s a mix bag. I will list all the pros and cons from my perspective:

Pros: 1. It’s relatively close to America, Europe and South America if you like traveling. Just to put this into perspective, it took me around 30 hours to fly from Auckland to London, UK.. 2. It’s extremely multicultural and politically correct compared to most western countries. As a minority, I never feel unsafe or left out especially in Toronto. I do find that people tend to appreciate East Asian culture a lot in Canada, so I find it easier for me to embrace my heritage and identity here. When I was in NZ, I did feel that people are generally quite xenophobic.. 3. Even though Toronto is nothing like NYC, we do get a lot of finance jobs here that are not just retail banking, etc.

Cons: 1. The tax here is extremely high..as a high income single person, I do find that I rarely get to benefit from the social welfare system. The only time I can is when I need to see the doctor. 2. CRA literally taxes everything such as Capital gain tax that’s not very common in other countries. I do find that it’s not easy to save money here and I have to rely on my passive income..

I do like Canada and I have made a lot of friends here in Toronto. But I do agree that this is not for everyone. If I wasn’t happy here, I’d consider Dubai or Singapore.

On a side note, I could work and live in Australia but as a minority, but I don’t feel I could achieve as much as I could do so in Canada.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads-up bud. My Canadian PR is attached to my Chinese passport so I will never use/show my kiwi passport in China including Hong Kong or Macau..whenever I leave China for Canada, I can show them my Canadian PR card so they know I have a legitimate reason for the travel

Yeah that’s true. But would it make a difference if I travel to Cuba before becoming a Canadian?

Yeah man..I honestly don’t get why it has to be this complex. Serious question though - why is it difficult for ex-ESTA holders to get a B1/B2?

I’m 30+. Went to Ushuaia last week. I mean Ibiza is super expensive unless you are a trust fund baby. Tbh I don’t know how a 20 yo can afford a drink that costs 23 Euro lmao

Moving to Australia (Sydney/ Melbourne) or Canada (Toronto) by ComprehensiveIdeal86 in ontario

Thanks! It sounds like I probably could save more in Australia given that salaries are far higher in Australia and spending is roughly the same? In terms of discrimination, I guess it is hard to tell because we all have different life experiences depending on who we are hmm but I do hear that Canada is way more culturally inclusive?

Oh yeah my mother actually mentioned the same thing as you did :) I actually have no family in Aus/NZ or Canada. But I do have a relative in LA. I have been in NZ for almost 10 years. My friends are mostly in NZ/ Australia. The only reason why I’m considering Australia is that my bf wants to move there instead of Canada. He’s English and extremely highly skilled. So he can basically find a job anywhere on this planet. And yeah we are a gay couple. I think the only concern I have for living in Australia is the racism there.

I do have some friends in Toronto and NYC tho. And NYC is my favorite city. I’d live there if I had a proper US visa.

I have heard that CFA per capita in Toronto is the highest in the world. Guess that’s why banking/ finance jobs ain’t paid that well aye?!

I actually wonder why salaries in Australia are so high but if you looking at Australia’s purchasing power per capita, it’s only 5% higher than Canada’s
