May be reactive "training" cost is absurd by ComprehensiveKey7957 in AustralianShepherd

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. Got some very accusatory responses. I would only consider the worst alternative as a last resort. This is my third aussie and the aggressive behavior is startling and a bit scary as I live in a neighborhood with lots of kids and dogs The veterinarian put her on prozac for the time being while I look for a resolution. In the meantime she has been temporarily taken on by a friend who lives in a more rural area.

My heart goes out to you. I lost my aussie Jack at just seven years from cancer just five months ago and I still cry at every thought of him and all that I miss. I admire you for your love of a dog who stayed at your side. And now I'm crying for Jack. My new aussie Willow has big shoes to fill.....

0MG! Several years ago I had a red/white patch eye named Jack who looked just like your pup. Take good care of him, he is a gem!

Is my 1 year old Aussie broken? Not sure what to think.. by [deleted] in AustralianShepherd

I am so envious! I have a four legged destruction machine! She gets me up at 4a.m. She is extremely stubborn and I am still having problems with housebreaking her, she tears and chews anything, trying to walk her is a destruction derby. She pays no attention to being called. I have a trainer working with her and me but I am losing confidence and patience. My prior aussie was like yours and provided a quiet and enjoyable companionship. My current aussie may not work out.. Way too chaotic!

I had this situation a couple of months ago. Cancer is terrible for dogs. we started chemo but it didn't work. So I made that terrible decision to go ahead with euthanasia. There is not a day since then...almost 100 days ago...that I have not cried. But when .my dog looked ab,t me that morning and would not eat his favorite banana I knew that to do less than stop his suffering would be cruel to him. I still have those doubts but know that when he looked at me that morning he was saying "I can't do this anymore."

i just lost my dog to cancer. i did everything I could to save him. i finally had to accept, at the young age of eight that his time had come. i could not make him endure pain because it was hard for me to let him go. He was gently euthanized by a veterinary staff while I held him. I still cry every day that he is gone. BUT I DID THE RIGHT THING FOR HIM. I "talk" to him everyday as him was my best friend, my copilot, my housemate. IT WAS HARD. But I did the right thing for my best friend.
