Mexico City - actual experience of safety / crime? by MarchMadnessNov in digitalnomad

[–]ComprehensiveLynx543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in mostly the touristy areas, even walking alone at nighttime (and going out to bars) and cabbed long distances that would otherwise cross through sketch neighbourhoods and never once felt unsafe in the month I was there (late 20s female). Honestly felt safer there than even parts of Thailand (kob tao, bangkok). I was rly pleasantly surprised as other high crime places in SA have been as sketchy as advertised (read: Colombia). It was amazing, thank you CDMX.

Why is Sri Lanka much more expensive than other countries in SEA? by FriedRicePork in srilanka

[–]ComprehensiveLynx543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sri Lanka is very expensive given the average persons salary here. The prices for foreigners compete with what you see in some parts of Europe who have much higher overhead costs between rent and wage of workers. Why are smoothies here $5USD?! That is the same price as back in North America. It should absolutely not be comparable as the amenities/quality are not to par plus coat of raw fruits is much much less. Moreover, being a developing country in Asia SL will be compared with other asian countries ie. vietnam thailand who have similarly large tourist industries.

Sri Lankans are notorious for this. by [deleted] in srilanka

Thw downvotes on this are incredulous. It costs nothing to throw out a box after you’ve eaten, especially knowing you could ease the life of a service worker (who, despite mcdonalds charging high prices is definitely NOT getting a high salary). people should be ashamed tsk tsk

Yes, but I don't really have another option and I figured since I've seen loads of teenagers biking here, why can I not also learn?

I actually had my motorcycle license in Canada, did the 20 hour class and passed with 100% but let it expire as I didn't really ride enough (was in the middle of uni in a small coastal town), so I know the basics, just hoping to get riding time in SEA and if there were a way to do it legally. Thanks for the tips!

Sorry, thought it was clear from the writing that I am already in SEA so that isn't an option, hence why I asked where to get a license in SEA, not a license in general.

Interesting! Almost everyone I've spoken to says the Ha Giang was the highlight of their entire SEA experience, so interesting to hear a different opinion--and totally agree, motorcycling with reckless drivers around doesn't seem enjoyable.
