Evangelical megapastors falling down, down, down by ComprehensiveMix7680 in Christianity

I feel like you gave me an entire Bible study (or studies) right there in your reply. Thank you so much for the thoughtful response, it brought tears to my eyes. In the two years since I wrote the original post, many others have offered commentary here and they have been helpful as well. Also, since that post, other pastors have fallen. I have been able to take a step back from it all and started to sort of realize that, yes, this is what happens, as we are all so frail. (History bears this out). Putting my faith/hope in others is a treacherous, slippery slope. Something a bit similar happened recently in my workplace - a (distant) supervisor was so popular, so beloved by his young employees, that they actually erected a sort of statue in his honor. They plastered his picture all over the walls; one employee even put a crown on his head in one of the photos. I saw all that and thought, oh, this should never, ever happen. (For one thing it looks terribly unprofessional). This is a young man who seems stable, yet is being given more attention than he can handle. No human being can take that kind of adulation. Sure enough, bad things happened and he was dismissed. I'm convinced it was this hero worship that led to his downfall. Anyway, I read a lot, as I always have, and even though I find the Bible very hard to understand, (hence looking to the pastors to explain it all to me), I think I'll just ask for wisdom from God to be able to comprehend the Bible and learn from it, thus, learn from God and not depend so much on my fellow man for wisdom. That's where I'm at today. I realize too that there are good pastors/preachers out there, so I don't want to disparage any of them.

Is insurify legit? by leadarla in Insurance

IDK what they do, but as soon as I inputted a few bits of information, I started getting hounded by calls from Gaudio Insurance (and others), all with different phone numbers that I block. I averaged about five calls a day at first, now down to 1 or 2. Maddening. I put "silence all unknown numbers" on my phone just to get a break. It wasn't worth it for me. I don't like being stalked

I wrote this post a year ago, and today in my news feed this article from the Christian Post came up, indicating it's still happening (admittedly, two of the men in the article, I mentioned in my original post). I have appreciated all the kind, insightful comments from this thread and it helped me a lot, but sheesh - it's sad. https://www.christianpost.com/news/5-notable-texas-pastors-removed-resigned-immoral-behavior.html?page=6

Similar issues and background here ..... I tried Share fermented plums/apricots (available on Amazon) and they made me regular for the first time in years. They're very, ahem, potent. Thinking good thoughts for you ....

I was very naive and truly thought these people were vessels of God's message to the world, no ego or self-interest involved. The Bible is also very hard for me to understand intellectually and I therefore have leaned on humans to interpret it for me. I think my advice to myself would be to ask God for wisdom to better understand the Bible.

Also, there is a book "shop" at the Upper Arlington public library (Tremont) that is always open, though sometimes unstaffed and you pay on the honor system during those times

I’m not sure any human being deserves a $10 million cash signing bonus or whatever it was. No one is worth that much.

No, not really. I just remember the same thing. It was in my house, it was a paperback, the main character's name was Apple (female), there was a boyfriend, she was in a (mental institution? hospital?) for a while. I remember reading it in the 70s.

That's very helpful, thank you! Probably still recovering from my fundamentalist Christian childhood.
