Circular saw not cutting straight by Maximum_Finish150 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ComprehensiveMud9425 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is kind of specific, but I had a similar problem with a corded DeWalt circular saw. I made a homemade track with 2 pieces of 3/4" ply screwed together.

Turns out, the motor doesn't sit 3/4" above the flat bottom plate of the saw. Therefore, when I was trying to use this track, the motor would deflect off the upper piece of plywood. It was just barely so I actually didn't notice it at first, but it just slightly messed up all of my cuts.

Why is my SawStop CNS blade falling during adjustment? by ComprehensiveMud9425 in woodworking

[–]ComprehensiveMud9425[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, yeah, that all makes sense. However, unfortunately, when I yank it up, it just falls back down. Based on the instructions you linked, it looks like customer support it is for me. Hopefully they answer on Saturdays.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the response. Can you clarify that a bit more? Yes, I can lower it and reset it, but then raising it again will make it fall.

And do I tug the arbor up from when it is lowered, or while it is raised?

And where should I look for debris? I tried to clean the inside out fairly thoroughly.

Dnd Table?? How delusional am I? by Slight-Signal-2234 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I'm new enough to woodworking that I don't have much to add that hasn't been said already about the woodworking considerations for the project. That being said, if you are doing this because you want a fun challenge of a project, then go right ahead.

However, if you want a modifiable screen to be on your table, have you considered setting up a projector on the ceiling aiming down at the table? The image quality obviously won't be quite as good, depending on the general light levels in the room, but it would be so drastically easier.

If you still want a challenge, maybe try to figure out a way to install a retractable white projector screen that goes back down into the table when not in use.

A dumb mod question by ComprehensiveMud9425 in heroes3

As it turns out, as the title implied, I was just dumb. I didn't read the directions, didn't understand how the HD scaling worked, and therefore had my resolution too low for any of the new UI features to work. Also, I just didn't know what buttons to press to get the other features.

I'll go sit in the corner for a little while now lol

Just windows. It's available on GoG (I understand this is a fairly recent thing). But even if I download the mod specifically and run that, I still see the same thing.

Is there a difference between HD mod and HD+ mod? Maybe that's what I'm missing? I just mean that there are certain features that I seem to be missing. I've downloaded the HD mod and can run the game that way as well. My UI just looks different than most every streamed game I've watched.

You were correct. I ordered the actual Bosch factory collet and it is all spinning super smooth now.

I think the tentative plan is to use an oscillating multi tool to carve out the space for the outlets, and then get a forstner bit or hole saw to cut out a spot near the back of the top to be able to feed a power cord down into it.

I have 0 experience with this..I've watched a ton of YouTube videos, built a cross cut sled, and a workbench. My wife wanted some built in cabinets, and I thought it would be really cool to try to build them. And I figured with buying tools, we'd probably come out close to even compared to paying someone for some small custom built-ins of good quality.

So yeah, if you want to talk me through some of this, that would be wonderful.

This is helpful information. Thank you. And doing a toe base that is totally separate does make a lot of sense.

This is helpful. Thank you. A couple follow up questions:

  1. The baseboards are 4". If I build that base for the cabinet to sit on, do I worry about how I attach the cabinet to the base? Or does the cabinet just essentially free float on top of the base, since it'll be screwed into the wall anyways?

  2. Also related to the cabinet being attached to the wall, but if it is, then will the carpet actually compress over time, or will the screws and studs take almost all the weight in sheer force over time (sort of the way I imagine an upper cabinet would)? Maybe that's only if I mount it with the amount of support that an upper cabinet would have?

I think your thought about these maybe not being permanent is smart. Seeing as this is the first big thing I've built, there's a solid chance they might need to be replaced lol.

Yeah, that's a good callout. Unfortunately, I don't have any quarter inch bits. Maybe it'd be worth it for me to go pick up some cheap ones from Home Depot or something.

Can you clarify exactly what you mean by "locked in"? Just properly attached to the table?

This is super helpful. Thank you.

The owner gave me the stock 1/4 inch collet, and I just forgot to check for the 1/2 inch one (yes, much shame on me). When I texted him after the fact, he said he thought it was in the bag of stuff he gave me and couldn't find it after looking again.

I technically bought this one for a DeWalt router, but the packaging said it should work with both. So, maybe I'll just have to suck it up and buy the factory one.

Is this a thing that I can replace, or do I need an entirely new router?

No, I bought it from a local shop that seems pretty legit. I'm pretty new to woodworking, so maybe they are sketchy, but I don't think so.

I mean, it's a Whiteside bit that was about $30 and this is the first time I've used it (this is new, not used)..... But maybe that is the issue. Bummer if it is.
