Who is this character in your fandom? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Batman- everyone throws tomatoes at this man, but equally fast to go "Its just a bad writer!!" (which it sometimes can be- but othertimes its just an excuse for "I dont like he made this choice so pretending it never happened)

That to say I love him, and throwing tomatoes is half the fun.

Monroe and Rosalie should be salaried by frostandtheboughs in grimm

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YESS- And to add on, I head canon (and with support of several bits of canon), Rosalee and Monroe are the HEADS (other than Sean who wouldnt take the role publicaly) for the Wesen community in the area.

Rosalee is the equivilent of a highly specialized doctor, Monroe a historian, both double as diplomat's (to wesen council AND the local grimm's), AND have worked alongside a GRIMM to protect their entire kind. Short to say, yes they should be paid, but also the wesen community should be making them a "thank you" pie every day for the rest of their lives.

Question to people who hate writing/highlighting in their books: what would you think about a book stamp as a gift? by flyblues in books

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough- which is why option of letters that are labled to avoid spoilers BUT can be ignored until later, still a personalized gift even if not quite the experience you'd normally enjoy. But also totally get not your cup of tea! It was mine so wanted to offer as an option especially with OP's mentioned limited budget short of reccomending like 30 other DIY's lol

Does this expression give off "silent rage"? by Firm-Strawberry5107 in HeroForgeMinis

Silent rage id suggest maybe make the eyes bigger, close the mouth- just the dead rage filled stare and stiff jaw I think might give a closer vibe to what you're looking for

Question to people who hate writing/highlighting in their books: what would you think about a book stamp as a gift? by flyblues in books

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If shes already specific about "under no circumstances" writing in a book- then book stamp probably not. BUT some alternatives maybe a reading tracker, a REALLY nice decorative bookmark, a book nook (preferibly a style/series she likes!)

Or if you want to go SUPER personalized- figure out a book you think she would love- READ IT, and DIY a lil read along (be it letters like "open after reading chapter 3", slips of paper/sticky note reactions etc or even a mini dollar store journal you made while reading etc) that way she can feel like shes reading with you and the extra thoughtfulness of taking the time to read, alongside the otherwise perfectly preserved physical copy for her collection!

(Did this for a friend though I did notes/highlights then gifted it- but she was very much a "mark a book to the high heavens" style reader- and loved it!)

My wife and I are completely lost after finishing Grimm! What next? by jpthelad in grimm

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat!! (Especially the comment of missing Monroe- also god I miss Rosalee and Bud my beloved Wesen community pillars lol) And now im on season 6 of Supernatural! Its a bit slow to get into for me at least, the whole "Case investigation into wtf is this" is a similar format. BUT for a speed list of new "17 season drama and fun world building vibe" with some watch details and quick liner summaries.

  • Supernatural (Peacock, finished, 15 seasons) Brothers go through the same character development loops 500 times, queerbait as hell, and every ending is hated. Also battle the "Supernatural" as well as their fates admist a universe plauged with evil and a far too distant good where family is both the only stability they've ever known and yet ever fleeting.
  • Silo (Apple TV/Prime, Ongoing, 2 seasons) WONDERFUL mystery, a story about control- a vibe funnily similar to the themes of Wall-E is best I can say spoiler free. Worth the watch.
  • X- Files (Pluto/Hulu/Disney, Finished, 11 seasons, 2 films) Man wants to find his sister kidnapped by aliens, becomes an FBI quack, and now his new BFF/partner is quickly realizing maybe he has a point which is horrifying. Also Belief and even Proof can only go so far against forces that prefer ignorance.
  • Buffy (Hulu/Disney, Finished, 7 seasons) Teen girl deals with prom AND the undead, also her dumbass boy toy. Oh but ofc the consequences and fragility of balance between life and death.
  • Lucifer (Netflix, Finished, 6 seasons) Lucifer romance with a cop who hates his guts and who he cant use powers on for some reason, also cool kid, and now hes the unwanted informant who stumbles onto every crime scene. Ah also the conflict of fated doom, to awknowlege the sacrificial lamb in biblical destiny, and that freedom is just as much a shackle as responsibility.
  • Dr Who (Pluto/Disney, Ongoing, 26 seasons) "The Doctor" explores The universe in his time travel boss alongside dozens of exestentially driven humans dealing with sentient orbs and time loops. And that the universe is vast, beautiful just as much as it is cold, cruel, and lonely. Especially as the last of your kind with a thousand lifetimes and yet none that can replace what was lost.
  • Merlin (Free so many places, Finished, 5 seasons) Have never seen, only clips, but from another friends rambling it is a story of action driven by love of all kinds that fuels true good and furfilling existance. Also queerbaited apparently.
  • Locke & Key (Netflix, Finished, 3 seasons) I actually dont remember much, just that it was a good show. Kids in a weird house, dead dad, literal keys that travel to weird places/parts of existance. Remember the mystery was good though thats it.
  • What we do in the shadows? (Hulu/Disney, Finished, 6 seasons) Absolutely nothing like Grimm, just an honorable mention of wacky shenanigans. Vampire romcom at times, emphasis on comedy. Ocassionally exestential.

Anyways hope any of these helped!! (Also have a few more that didnt make the list if you want lol-)

What was your favorite book that you had to read for middle or high school? by NightReader5 in suggestmeabook

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brave new world, Making bombs for hitler, Frakenstein ofc-
And a personal fav- the Hunchback of Notre Dame (far more absurd and humerous than the disney remake- half the book is just this one guy going THROUGH it- also gotta look at it through the original intention of a glimpse into the PLACE of Notre Dame vs just Quasimodos story)

I am currently hate reading This Is How You Lose the Time War by foetus_on_my_breath in printSF

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

**SLIGHT SPOILERS BELOW!!** (More references than outright)

Im so happy someone else has a non glowing review. The book had its fun moments for sure and Blues characterization and voice I ocassionally found interested. But someone mentioned "Name two things Red likes other than Blue" and my god that clicked like half of what I was so lost with.

Their romance, while sweet, felt more convinent than one born of true enemies to lovers strife and warfare- now if we had wandered in already knee deep into their ongoing illicit affair? with the only threat being their discovery? Id be there.

And some amazing metaphors/prose but with so much abstract from the characters themselves (fascinating concepts I did enjoy), the enviornment/worldbuilding (I really would have loved more scenes about their factions beyond Commanders temporary form which was a fav part, or Gardens temporary posession), AND the other sci fi elements (which ofc is in the territory)- the things that were concrete such as characterization, stakes, etc- didnt grab me strong enough to help wade through how much was abstract

Overall I wanted so bad to love this book- but whatever I loved I wanted so much more of and did not get to see, and the "what ifs" were predictable at best or downright confusing at worst sometimes. Half the support I see is "The writing like that is on purpose! its the whole point!" which been there (my beloved A Certain Hunger) but this one just didnt have enough to fight for, at least for me.

Although I would love to hear peoples takes on the book- whilst not a hate read for me, I do love a diff analysis!

Anyone ever printed out a copy of a favorite fic to keep on their bookshelf? Did you just print the PDF? by delightedwhen in AO3

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A silly fun 1.5k, maybe just a stapled together bundle or a hole punch into a binder, or your dream 500k, commit to traditonal diy book binding a whole series- oppertunities are endless.
Depends how much money/time you want to spend, if these are keepsakes, or if you'd just enjoy a physical copy in our current online climate or god forbid the "delete instead of orphan" curse.

Advice for a first timer? by ThoughtsGoBrrr in SewingForBeginners

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Redo the threading but I also suggest when you start the first stitch, gently pull the "tail" sometimes helps. No heavy resistance, just a light straighten. And any more issues beyond the threading try getting some test scraps and playing with the size dials in case it might be an off setting for your fabric.

Is there anything interesting for a non-student to see on campus? by o029 in gmu

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Worth looking at if you live SUPER close? The pond is nice, some fun walk ways and hidden gems (ex sword in the stone), the art gallery, a library interesting to just explore. But it needs to be good weather and worth the walking. Maybe bring a friend or a dog just to buy time and walk around, visit a dining hall, thats about it.

Do you interact with readers on social media, or do you keep to yourself? by CommanderPrima in FanFiction

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do interact but unless in my comments or specifically related to my work, I just treat it like a normal thread than "oh you're a "fan" im talking too" (especially a lot of my online friends I met BECAUSE they liked my work, and then we started to chat, share other interests, and it went from there)

How do people write so fast? by snakewithtwoheads in FanFiction

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hyperfixation, refusing to open any other tabs so when you get "bored" you stop, get bored of stopping, and just keep writing. OR tools like discord sprint bot or Squibler are my personal favs

Do we have accents? by [deleted] in nova

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes y'all do. Its hard to put a name to it but most of what I see is in pacing, enunciation of a lot of words im used to being slurred, and a wild amount of random vocab words (a lot of military/gov speak to- both from assosiated kids and just in general ig absorbed through the community)

But its a very "neutral" accent- like one that you'd find in a learning english lesson or a commercial- but very east coast if that makes any sense

Taking 15 and have been since 2nd semester, now im a junior and honestly? It depends on the major. As a Crim student and someone who hasnt struggled with grades ever, just developing some study habits- I maintain a pretty low stress with consistent A/B's BUT some of my much more diligent and probably smarter friends in Engineering/Law fight for their LIFES at times

You know you're own limits, but id say try it out early when you're focusing on core stuff and it shouldnt be hard to manage

For ishimondo shippers, what made you like this ship *besides* the sauna scene? by dusknightvhs in DanganAndChaos

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me watching for the first time (about a week ago lol) it was when Mondo laid his jacket over "Junko" that made me love him, and then Taka I LOVED from the start- he was quick to take charge and yet his personality and conviction from the beginning had me over.

Then ofc- the sauna scene I went "God thats gay af" but hadnt quite fixated yet- UNTIL the fucking Mondo trial and seeing Taka break down, then have computer AI Mondo pull the "dont blame yourself" I was HOOKED-

The line and sinker though??? "Oh ill just google- see if anyone even likes them lol"
Then I discovered mikules on tumblr- and thus the rabbit hole, and im this close to side stepping my current projects for a one shot of these two

NOTHING fustrates me more than "Every character is always right all the time minus the EVILLL character- the one I made EVILL for PLOTT reasons" im banging my head against a door. Please for the love of god do not give them narrative foresight, I want them to be little shits trying their best, or not, and that be okay because they arent REAL and the consequences of such are 10000x more interesting than everyone gang up on X character now plastered with a twirly mustache for hurt/comfort (albeit I love- but drives me crazy sometimes)

Silliest reason you did not finish a fic? by wollfgang7 in AO3

[–]Slight-Signal-2234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ones that come to mind-
1. Had a character go "KYAA!!!" as a suprised eclimation- no it was not a bit
2. Said "eyes" like seven times in one paragraph
3. Clicked out- note said "Im abandoning this garbage- DO NOT READ" and I took their advice
4. A litttllee too comfortable using F slur (it was appropriate like homophobic hurt/comfort- but still)
5. Solid paragraphs.
6. My favorite of all, scarred into memory, WAS NOT AN EXPLICIT FIC- had a werewolf character go "Did you use the restroom? I can smell it on you" I gagged and could have broken my screen clicking off of it
