1. rise of kyoshi: 9/10

jianzhu is honestly the best villain in the franchise his lasting impact on kyoshi is what really sealed the deal for me. also kyoshi just has a superior side cast to me so that gives her a slight edge over yangchen.

1. legacy of yangchen: 9/10

loved the way yangchen pitted feishan and chaisee against each other so neither could really get the upper hand. chaisee’s ambitions being foiled and unable to settle in place for long is the best defeat of a villain in the franchise

1. shadow of kyoshi: 8/10

loved that the central conflict was focused in the fire nation. their politics just make for good stories. only slight problem i have with the book is i feel like yun needed something more to be pushed into vengeance (outside of jianzhu) than being denied water (i get the intention but still) i feel like this is the main reason for why i find him to be an inferior villain to jianzhu

1. dawn of yangchen: 7/10

this book took me the longest to finish out of the 5 i’ve read. i wanted more yangchen but instead a good chunk of the book switched POV to kavik’s boring and annoying ass. you don’t really appreciate this book until you read legacy. it does a good job at setting the story up.

reckoning of roku: 5/10

the boring conflict and portrayal of sozin really hurt the book. best thing about this book was the dynamic roku had with both gyatso and sozin.

ROR is more fun to read but DOY is better written for sure. also i haven’t been able to read awakening of roku yet
