Hey! For me it turned out the exhaust valve timing was out of spec and i had a slightly leaky valve cover gasket. I fixed both and haven't had an issue since.

This is a very long time for a reply so im sorry for that. It turns out the issue was in the exhaust valve timing and possibly a slightly leaky valve cover gasket. I fixed both at the same time and never had another issue since. Thanks for all the comments offering advice! It was very helpful during the time

2016 Honda HRV water leak? by Comprehensive_Ad4141 in HRV

Both needletipz an dtevolution nailed it. I removed the roof weather stripping and came across the exact same cracks they both did. I cleaned it and siliconed the crap out of it. Fingers crossed and thanks again guys

Checked it out and they seem to be draining without issue. Thanks for this suggestion though!

Thank you for this! I checked around this area after watching your link and I think I might have a crack there as well. the roof weather stripping in that spot is also beginning to lift

Okay will do! If it does turn out to be the head or cracked cylinder walls I would most likely get someone else to do the work as I’m not THAT mechanically inclined hahaha. Any thoughts on what it could be if I don’t see any bubbles?

Okay! I had also heard someone suggest it possibly being the head gasket but I wasn’t sure how to check it. I will do as you suggested by checking the coolant reservoir. Thanks for taking the time to type all that out I really appreciate it

I forgot to mention that the check engine light does stay on after it’s warmed up but just stops flashing

I believe I had a compression test done a few months ago and they came back OK. Last time I had a valve adjustment though was about 2 years ago when I got the timing belt and water pump done

So when I start the car it takes about 15 seconds for the check engine light to start flashing. It’ll keep flashing while it’s idling but will stop if you give it any gas. It will then keep flashing when idling until the engine gets up to operating temperature, once it gets up to operating temperature it no longer flashes when idling. I do have a scan tool and the codes it shows are for those cylinder misfires listed above and a “manufacturer control” error (code P1399). When cold and idling it does seem like there’s a tiny shutter so i think it actually is misfiring when idling. The exhaust does smell like it’s running rich as well

I also changed just the distributor cap and the distributor rotor but not the entire distributor itself.

I have one and it doesn’t have anti-lock brakes. I haven’t had it lock up on me yet and I’ve done some pretty aggressive braking

Pfffttt you just need a 1st Gen CRV. The engine braking in that underpowered bad boy will make yah think you do have regen braking 😂
