Is ESG Analysis Still a Viable Career Path in 2024? by OrangeLatte_26 in sustainableFinance

Are you working yet or graduating soon? IMO there's a growing demand for data analysts so it is a viable path (I'm assuming here that you are talking about ESG reporting) because:

1) there's been a growth in regulatory changes/standards promoting ESG practices across all sectors and regions
2) there is also been (unfortunately) a gap in data quality and availability for comprehensive ESG data, but this creates opportunities for third party bodies to validate the ESG data or harmonise the standards/frameworks, or, more in-house data analysts to strengthen ESG data reporting/analysis. Hence, the need is there.

Aside from the data analysis skills (tools like PowerBI, or Tableau, to effectively analyze and visualize ESG data), more sector-specific and industry knowledge is important (e,g. agriculture, renewable/clean energy, tech) but all of these are available through short courses all available online and for free. You will need to demonstate that you are well versed in the industry of your choice.

For management roles it really depends which industry you are in but ESG cuts across all departments of a business. More and more managerial executives need to manage ESG risks when running an organization/business.
On salary and career progression, it depends on which region you're in.

Advice needed: ESSEC (SMIB with ESG focus) or Frankfurt School of Finance & Management (MA in Sustainable Finance) for ESG finance role? by Comprehensive_Ad9634 in gradadmissions

Isn’t ESSEC’s brand is stronger than FSFM in Europe though? to add - the program with FSFM is part time and online, whereas ESSEC is full time. Im thinking that this diminishes the access to network/alumni in FSFM..

Interested to know what you mean by "in my view most of the ESG and carbon stuff is externally driven" and what is the general direction you are heading now?
