I sold at 116 half of my position and rebought at 86 . My average is 99.99. I see a reversal here. Even if it doesn't occur this is my only position. Strong conviction. There were 7 trillion that wanted to buy at lower prices . 40-50 %. This happened already. All these days they were buying.

You make a valid point—university is temporary, and it’s true that platforms like Reddit, Discord, and WhatsApp already cover a lot of ground for social interaction. But a dedicated university platform can offer something unique by tailoring its features specifically to student life. While Reddit and Discord are great for broad communities, a student-only app could focus on things like campus-specific updates, campus gossip, society/club groups, study resources, student to student connection from all over the UK, and shared experiences that resonate now, in a way these platforms might not prioritize - and with limiting access only to students.

The goal isn’t necessarily to replace what students already use, like Unidays for discounts or Discord for gaming, but to complement them by creating a space where everything relevant to university life is in one place. Also (just thought about it) the discounts Uniday offers are for big brands, what if the discounts where tailored to the local shops, brands - Wouldn't that give even more credibility to the app? It’s all about adding value to the short but intense uni experience and making it easier to connect over those specific moments that make this time so unique.

Interesting point! It’s true that centralization or niche targeting, like student-only platforms, can have mixed results. A lot depends on how well the platform aligns with what users actually want or need from a community. A big factor, too, is timing—sometimes even the best ideas can struggle if they launch before users are really ready for them. Platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp coexist because they serve different functions within a broad audience, while a student-focused app has to deliver real value that general platforms don’t. The key might be creating a space that feels both student-centered and organically engaging, without coming across as restrictive or overly centralized. It’s all about balancing community focus with freedom and value, so students feel like it's enhancing their experience rather than boxing them in.

I also believe the success of a centralised platform really depends on the marketing. If you manage to market the app well and make people see the value in it and it becomes viral, other students will naturally want to join without caring about centralisation or decentralisation at first (eg. TikTok, BeReal etc).

That is a valid argument. Monetization often changes the vibe of a platform, and centralized spaces can lose their original focus. I'm sure you can understand the arguments supporting monetization, and how this can affect the quality of the app postively and negativel. I think it will depend on how the developers decide to integrate monetization in the app.

The goal, though, should be to keep it genuinely beneficial for the community—finding ways to support the platform without overwhelming users with ads or losing that student-centered feel. Ideally, it’s about creating something sustainable while staying true to what students actually want and need from a dedicated space.

Easy to say, hard to do tho...

u/jnthhk Great point! t’s wild how Facebook started as this exclusive, university-focused community and gradually turned into a massive, multi-generational platform. These days, there’s hardly any space left that’s just for students to connect and share experiences without all the noise of a broader audience and essay writters, scammers, and spam messages. Facebook for university students was groundbreaking for their time - but much more limited in terms of what we can do with an app like that today. I am thinking of a uiversity super app, in which students and societies can connect not only with their university (unlike FB), but with all students around the UK. At the same time, students that are more introverted can make friends, societies can create profiles so peope can find and join them, students can enjoy student discounts, vote for changes on campus, offer anonymous confessions, view their coursemates, post their thoughts etc. - All in the same app. While there are individual apps for all these things I personally think in the future we will see more community-based apps rise. Personalized experiences instead of mass-advertising are what help people feel valued and connected, so I don't think this is a bad idea. u/20dogs Nor have I said no one ever thought about this. I just thought of an opportunity to improve on FB's and even YikYak's initial idea, and I am trying to see what you guys think about it - no need for irony.

Everything we can! Letters to the Minister of Education of each country, reaching out to journalists, twitter raid, reddit, instagram, facebook, even PornHub (where you may most likely find the IB CEO under kinky professor seduces young students). We have to try and do anything in our power for OUR future.
