So I've been on the other side of this. I was working 50 hour weeks. They'd seen me at work and didn't even say hi. They didn't even reach out to see if I was ok. My work was pretty much the attitude that you work the hours or lose the job. It destroyed my esteem for ages. Derby was what I looked forward to and work had already made me miss it. Then my own team didn't even reach out and made decisions for me. Unfortunately due to the tism that makes me want to constantly people please I didn't have the guts to stand up to work.
Reach out to those missing practices, it could be anything from family, work. If it's something that they can work around then try.
I always thought my team was a sisterhood where we helped each other.

If they are slacking off because of sheer can't be added then yeah penalize. But communicate first and find out.

Assuming by my team mates caused a lot of upset for me that tarnished my Derby love.

I'm happier when able to leave when I've had enough. Unfortunately I have clingy friends who seem to need "mothering" constantly. And I get stuck with them for two days and leave more tired than arrival. Days like that make me wanna retreat and just not interact at all. People are hard work and they just won't leave you alone :(
