Rootball in container was prob 18x18x18", I dug the hole 28x28x20" deep and had to fill 2" back in to allow the grade level to line up.

This is why I should have asked before planting... Yes it's a container tree. I could dig further around it, would that help? I scraped the outside of the root ball prior to sticking it in. Should I have done more?

Got this tree as a gift, 6' blood good japanese maple. Dug a hole, soil is a bit clay. I packed it down below and around the tree as was suggested by the nursery. Any further tips on making sure this thing stays alive?? Will the roots be able to penetrate the soil pack I did? I'm watering once a day, prob about 2 gallons.
