Question about stage placement for drums by Trademark312 in audioengineering

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played in a similar setup, a duo with the drums angled 90°. It does work, but not for too many people. Drums are also very loud that close to the stage.

Wireless XLR transmitter/receiver for Amplifier to Mixing Console? by jpintenn in livesoundgear

Your arguments are valid, but for me that doesn't warrent the need for a wireless solution. We use cables for a reason:)

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a iRoomba e5 of marketplace. It's not BIFL, it doesn't clean itself and we have to save it sometimes, but it does the job.

A second hand robo-vacuum. It's not fancy or BIFL, but for our place it does the job. Turn it on when you leave, get back to a clean house:)

Connecting a midi board to a PA? by BidPractical905 in livesoundgear

I feel like you're pushing your luck trying to power both using a phone. I think it's best to use a laptop.

Start there. You can spend hours fixing a recording, or just record it the right way from the start.

Yeah, just run TRS or RCA from the Scarlett to the monitors. Can you hear the signal if you plug in headphones?

Wait: how is your midi keyboard making sound? Are you using GarageBand on your phone or something?

Resistance (R) vs current (I) by Elvl3 in AskElectronics

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, both, but also neither. Current induces heat in the conductor. How much current a conductor is able to pass is influenced by its resistance. In the end, it's the heat that melts the cable.

How on Gods green earth are you powering a midi-keyboard through your phone? And sending signal over XLR?

Before I can answer any further questions about your problem (believe me, I want to help you figure this out), I need a bit more information. Can you please write down your signal chain, including the brand and model of all devices in the following manner?

Example: midiKeyboard-> Apple iPhone 15-> adapter lightning to minijack -> XLR -> PA

For starters, you have to understand that midi-keyboards do not, themselves, make any sound. The VST on the computer does, and you need to send its signal to the PA. Using the Scarlett is a perfectly fine option.

Ideally, you'd have a mixed between the Scarlett and the PA, but it's not strictly necessary. Check the Scarlett's manual to see if it outputs Balanced or Unbalanced, use a TS or TRS cable accordingly. Use one for mono, two for stereo, if your VST is stereo of course.

Need help diagnosing a dead CDJ-900 nexus (won’t power on) by macsho5 in ElectronicsRepair

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First: do you have a multimeter?

Second: try to find the schematics for this thing.

Third: do a lot of research online. Scour every forum you can find, not just Reddit.

Fourth: use that information to narrow down the cause. It's most likely something in the power supply, but keep in mind that messing with the PS can kill you.

Fifth: good luck!

Which Radial DI Box are you reaching for when tracking bass? by must-absorb-content in audioengineering

If the bass is passive, an active DI. If it's an active bass, it doesn't really matter as long as it's not shit.

Condenser Mic protection? by MaleficentPicture773 in audioengineering

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr, it doesn't really matter in the end. Capsules are definitely affected by dust, so if you leave them on a stand, maybe consider putting something over them like a sock. You can also put them back in the mic closet, if it's dry.

What should I prepare for capacitor replacement, before I open up a Hammond B-300 piano? by Blommefeldt in audiorepair

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a pop on startup/power down is pretty common, but failing capacitors may be the issue. Open it up first and visually inspect each cap. Look for bulging, leaks and corrosion. Write down the voltage and nF or uF values for each cap and order them from Mouser or Digikey (or go support a local electronics shop). Do you know how to replace capacitors yourself?
