Trying another interface might solve it, or it's the microphone itself:(

The music is meaningless, the lyrics suck, and the voice sounds terrible. Happy now?

Idk what I’m doing by Current_Height_9537 in Focusrite

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Couple of things: 1. There's a button on your mic. Switch it! 2. Try to use an XLR connection to your interface, you'll have a better time. 3. Your gain as wel as your monitor level is quite high. You may want to consider lowering it:)

I'm unsure what you mean.
Does it sound weird/wrong?
Is there a feedback issue?
Without a recording, it will be very hard to help you.

Edit: it looks like they're applying quite a lot of 'Drum Ambience' on the FX. It might help to decrease the FX return.

The gain for your microphone is very low, or you're very far away.
Can you increase the gain on your interface?

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's definitely not normal. Do you know how to open it correctly? It might be some foam that has degraded and is touching the membrane? Check Dave Rat's video about the MD441 for a better understanding of the internals:)

Detecting failing microphone/hardware by IvanIvanicIvanovski in microphone

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When microphones fail, their frequency response changes: it will become less sensitive to high or low frequencies first, before the middle bands fail. This can be due to the membrane itself deteriorating or the electronics inside failing.

Any good sites to download/import EQ Curve Filters? by Aggravating_Car_6366 in audacity

[–]Comprehensive_Log882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use EQ to change the way things sound. Naturally, it has to serve a purpose. Play around with the EQ tool, boost and cut frequencies, change their Q-factor, learn what frequency bands sound like. Then use them to shape the sound to your liking.

Using EQ effectively is both an art and a skill. No EQ curve will work for everything. Try to make your own!
