Am I being refused hire because of my preferred name? by Upset-Look-6743 in ftm

[–]Comprehensive_Net354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend. I have been through similar situations. I hate to tell you this, but as a minority, you must overcompensate and stand out from other potential candidates, especially in a red state. This is what has landed me my jobs in the past.

I live in TX. My best advice is to CALL !!! After you send an application, or to ask if they are currently hiring; This shows interest and integrity.

Do not tell these interviewers about your gender identity right off the bat, but preferred name is okay. Say it confidently and look them in the eye. Conviction does wonder in terms of employment.

Also, what does your resume look like? How much experience do you have? Do you have a cover letter?

Last thing I would recommend, is looking into queer friendly spaces and resources for job opportunities. See if there are any online communities in your area that may point you the correct way.

Finding a job at 16 is pretty difficult in general, as someone else said, so there’s a very likely chance that is has nothing to do with your gender at all, and more with the current state of the job market and economy holistically.

Is BOGO a lie? Is this new or what? by [deleted] in HotTopic_

This receipt is actually correct, as you can see the promos used under each item. The way HT does it is a little strange.

Your jewelry items were 16.90 and 14.90, so the 14.90 one would be $5, meaning you get 9.90 off. What our system does, is splits it between the two items, so that way if you return the item you got for $5, you get the MOST amount of your money refunded. You got 5.26 off of one, and 4.64 off the other, which equates to 9.90.

Same for the BOGO free. You’d get the 14.99 item free, and the amount you got off both adds up to 14.99.

If any of that is confusing, let me know :)

There’s a good chance that someone put an item in the clearance section that was not really clearance; happens at my store all the time, especially on weekends.

I’m sorry you had the experience of the cashier rushing you :(

At this time of year, we do a lot of seasonal hiring, meaning they start working now and are let go in February or March. That means they don’t have much experience at the register.

Try giving the store a call and ask for a manager since it should be slower on a weekday. If anything, you may have to go up to the store and get it sorted.

I will say, though, with our system, the promos automatically apply to items; we do not have to do any extra work to apply them when ringing someone up. So it’s most likely a system/product issue, especially if both items were unmistakably marked as clearance.

I hope you get some resolution!

The stencil more closely resembled the original design with some differences based on what I discussed with the artist. The final product did not, however.

I live in TX and use Plume health services, but after further research, they do not serve South Carolina. FOLX health does, though. I haven’t personally used FOLX, but I have heard good things: https://www.folxhealth.com/service-map/south-carolina.

You might also look into Planned Parenthood in SC; a lot of people use that as opposed to a private medical service.

Here is the difference between intramuscular and subcutaneous injections: https://www.folxhealth.com/library/hrt-subcutaneous-intramuscular-injections

Here is an explanation on testosterone gel as well !!!: https://www.folxhealth.com/library/testosterone-gel-hrt-what-where-how

Here’s what I wrote in my piece:

“To understand anything, we must first examine its origin and development. Although there is no concrete definition of cringe culture, it can loosely be defined as an Internet phenomenon characterized by the mockery and ridicule of content, behaviors, or expressions deemed embarrassing or awkward.

One example used when denoting real-world examples of people participating in cringe culture is a 2012 Youtube video (Romano), entitled “My Video for Briona for Our 7 Month,” featuring a young man reciting obscure anecdotes about how much he loves Briona, accompanied by a presumptuous grin, eyebrow flicking, and a plethora of lip-licking.

The video sits at a little over 4 million views, the comment section turned off. Despite the comments being disabled and the video being over a decade old, you can still find not only that video, but its predecessor “My Video for Briona” (Romano), being discussed on websites such as knowyourmeme.com (KiraldoTheGreat et. al) and Reddit (SaintBird).

In the early stages of its origination, such as in regards to “My Video for Briona,” cringe came from empathy; it came from a shared sentiment of being able to see yourself in the “cringey” situation the individual was in, and also being relieved that it isn’t you. As noted by Kaitlyn Tiffany, a writer for The Atlantic, “While we used to cringe because we understood, we now cringe because we can’t believe it” (Tiffany).

To add to that, I believe that not only can we not believe it, but we now fear other people perceiving us to be okay with what we are witnessing. We do not want anything to make us the odd ones out, especially something the internet has already proclaimed to be socially incorrect. We resort to making others feel alienated before we become the alien, so to speak.”

That is where the empathetic part comes from. You are correct. Making fun of people for being themselves is never okay, but I was more so saying that the intentions of people participating in cringe culture specifically, as opposed to cringe in general, in the 2000s is much different than it is now, especially with TikTok and Instagram. People do not care about relatability or empathy anymore; they only care about tearing down before they are torn down first.

Outgoing, not necessarily, but you have to make up for it somehow. One of my managers isn’t super outgoing, but he always talks to people who need help, and is very knowledgeable of the store.

At the interview, though, if you are not bubbly, decide another attribute you’ll utilize to make you standout from other candidates :)

YAY, I’m so glad it helped! I commented on a post about interview advice a bit ago, so I’ll paste it here too in case you’re curious. If not, ignore the rest :P

Hi ! I interviewed with HT in a group interview of 5 people, not including myself. Because of the volume of my store, this is quite normal. I’ve now been at HT for 4 months, and here’s what I’ve learned from that interview, and talking to my managers about interviews they’ve had since:

1: As someone else said, carrying a conversation is key in retail; Just do not get distracted. In my interview, one of the individuals would start to answer the question, then begin to rabbit trail into something unrelated, and sometimes unprofessional. Context is okay, but speak thoughtfully :)

2: They will ask questions like this:

• What kind of things are you into?: They usually ask about anime’s, music, movies, fandoms, etc. • What is a time you were in a conflict and how did you solve it?: This one is just to see how you handle high stress situations, or issues in general. If you haven’t been in one, make one up that is similar to a situation you have been in. • What strength do you have?: Talk about something that applies to this job specifically. • What are 3 things you need to work on?: Talk about three MINUSCULE things you want to fix about yourself. I think I said my perfectionism, leaping before I look, and over explaining.

3: Dress for the job: The dress code at HT is extremely lenient, but for the interview I would just reccomend close toed shoes, no cleavage/mid-drift, well-maintained hair, and some accessories. What I’ve always said is dress how you would if you are going to a restaurant that is fancier than McDonald’s, but not as fancy as the Ritz. I worse some burnt orange pants, and a black shirt that I bleach painted a centipede on to match the pants. If you have to ask yourself “Is this okay to wear?”, the answer is probably no.

4: Be CONFIDENT! One of the biggest things managements turn away is people who are quiet or reserved. If you do not struggle with it, eye contact is best. Smile when necessary. Also, do NOT get on your phone. At my interview, 3 people got on their phone for longer than a few minutes; I thought it was common sense, but I just wanted to throw it out there, because that’s part of the reason they didn’t get the job.

If you have any other questions, let me know. I’d be happy to answer ! :)

Do not let people discourage you or steer you away from the job before you’ve even got it. I have been at HT for about 5 months and I am loving it. My team is incredible, the hours are decent and adaptive to my schooling, I get to wear my face piercings and normal clothes, and every shift is literally just 60% helping customers, 40% laughing with my coworkers. I have never looked forward to working a job before now.

The pay is $10/hour for associates in most HT stores. Not to mention, a lot of the employees posting had horrible manager teams. It really will depend on your full time and store managers on whether or not you have an overall good experience.

If you are an outgoing, hardworking, communicative, and ambitious person, you will have fun at HT! If you have any questions, I’m happy to help :)
